I am considering getting one of the following, I will consider a different unit if I come across it or is mentioned...

Here are the Contenders:
m-vehicle-specific-custom-enclosure-fits-2007-2011.jpg

In one corner we have the MTX Thunderform. The enclosure is made of all plastic, comes with a speaker, hookups and even an Amp that is designed specifically for the unit, they ask whether or not it has BOSE or not, so it might be a plug and play. They also have a non amplified version and possibly a non speaker version.

Amplified version uses a 10" speaker, 200 Watt, 4Ohm, 2 year warranty

The Amplified version ready to install around $510.00 (Free Shipping)
NON-Amplified Version: $340.00 (Free shipping)

In the other corner is the JL Audio Stealthbox. This enclosure is carpeted, so it has a more "factory feel" It only comes with a non amplified version as far as I can tell...

10" speaker, 300 Watt handling, 2Ohm Mono, 2 year warranty.

Price with speaker $650

-------------------------
1) I am not trying to thump (getting too old for that) I just want it to have a bit deeper kick than it does now. Bit of an audiophile...

2) Price is a no brain decision between the two, MTX is $140 less AND it has an Amp. BUT, if anyone has experience with both, or has an opinion why would I go with the JL Audio?

Thanks

The link you gave me was for the center seat style console...

The obvious advantage I would see with the JL or tha bare bones MTX is you can pick your own amp, and you get a bit more power. Accessing the sub volume would be easier as it would be remotely placed.

The advantage with the all in one enclosure would be everything is a matched set, they are designed to work together. Getting to the controls I think would be a PITA, but once you get it set up, it should be a no touch situation.

I recently swapped out the stock console sub in my 07 Tahoe. I went with this sub/box combo and this amp .

I requested the dvc 1 ohm sub without any issues to run the amp at 2 ohms. I already had the necessary wires/accessories to hook it up. It's substantially more powerful than the factory setup, but not overkill.

The amp fits nicely under the passenger side rear captains chair too.

Any idea if it works with the rear A/C? MTX and JL do not.

Do not be confused.

Having rear A/C does not mean you have rear vents. Some vehicles like Trucks had the rear vents inside the console because there was no place to put a rear A/C unit, the Tahoe/Suburban/Yukon/Escelade If you have the rear A/C unit behind the RIGHT trim panel, you would not have the vents.

My 07 Tahoe LTZ does NOT have the vents in the rear of the console. It has the rear A/C however,

In short, the only thing going from the front to rear is the wires for the controls.

Check the rear of the console and look for the vents...

I think where the problem would come in would be most likely with the Avalanche, As I am not sure where they would put the rear A/C other than have a blower and vents in the rear console like my 2005 Rainier.

I believe this is the rear vents that they are referring to:

This should be ok, if the description is correct.

I can't speak to the Tahoe setup but I had a JL Stealthbox in my F250 and loved it. Would go that route again if the opportunity (money) presented itself.

I got the MTX Thunderbox Loaded (w/o amp) and then I got a 500W Alpine Amp that fit nicely (barely) under the back seat. Now it sounds like my 2005 Rainier and my sold 1990 Riviera.

Took me about 5 hours of messing around, running wires, figuring out what speaker wire did what, etc, but it worked out great...

First thing I did was level out the EQ on the radio, to flat, Once I got it up and going I had to turn the Amp down to about 1/4 power, and adjust the crossover to 60-80 Hz,

It was an Amp specifically designed for a Mono speaker.

Where does the thunderform go? Under the console as well?

Edit: disregard... I didn’t realize this was an old ass thread and doesn’t even pertain to 2015+

So jealous. Any chance you’d sell? I’d make it worth your while.
Kind of on the fence about it. When I pulled the box out that plastic peg that's sticking out of the plastic trim tore the foam a little on the sub. Needless to say it pissed me off.

What foam did you rip? The speaker? Also let me know- name a price.
