I think you can do a lot better than $4K for a short block. :0

Frankly, given all the new stuff you already have in it, if you have a decent machine shop nearby, just pull it, mount it on a stand and rebuild it yourself. These are pretty simple engines.

that's the pita part, if metal ruins the good stuff i already have then fk!
but it looks like the metal is super small, so a good cleaning and recyle will probably be gtg.

mini panic mostly, just got done patting my self on the back for a job well done earlier today, and then i see glitter.

me all :rage:

I found some cheep booze my wife bought a while back.
Not my usual (upper) middle scale booze....

Time to sample it.

In other news, fir those who have remote start, what is the procedure used to start your Hoe from the fob?

not sure if there’s a virgin sacrifice or if it’s simpler than that.

Well, I had the remotes ready but I need the tech2 as well. A few more days.

I wanted to make sure I knew the procedure to use the remote. I’ve only had it on one vehicle, a fjord.

I sliced a chunk out of my filter, had some little pieces but with a new camshaft and lifters, it looked pretty good.
And those mobile one filters are pretty stout!

the little sparkles what ever they are, appear to be small enough to pass through the filter.
And they do not appear to be magnetic in any way.

took the hoe around the block again, got the rpm up pretty high with the oil pressure gauges pinned. :D

damn thing sounds just perfect, so in another 500 miles or so I'll replace the filter and cut it open again.
Maybe do a black stone thing at the same time, or wait for another 500 after that to ensure i get a good reading.
What did you do to rebuild your rockers? I’m thinking that could be brass from the bushings most upgrade kits use, maybe you pressed one or two too tight.

Well, since I had a new ignition switch ordered, I went ahead and installed it on thedeadhoe. No joy, but it was worth a shot in case of a sneak circuit.
you "might" have to do a relearn on the ignition if you replaced the cylinder, not completely sure though on my 2012 there is a separate security ring module that goes around the end of the cylinder, if the security light stays lit with the key in the on position then that is your sign. On my nbs there was a sensor in the cylinder housing and I think it had to be relearned if the cylinder was replaced. did you re-key it? so you wont have to carry around 2 keys?

If I'm going to do this updated valve cover, what all would I need? Would the new cover come with a new gasket? Anything to clean inside?

I don't really want to tear into this as it's my daily and can't afford to be without it. I'm ok with cleaning inside and parts, but really replacing other stuff is not on the priority list.

I did not rekey, just a simple switch swap.

by relearn do you mean with a tech2 or something else? My tech2 is several days away still.

if the security light is staying on solid with the key on, then you will need to do the 30 minute relearn, tech2 is not required and won't make it any faster of a process.
takes (3) 10 minute interval's, turn key on leave it for 10 minutes until security light goes out, turn key off then back to on for another 10 minutes until security light goes out, turn key off then back to on for a additional 10 minutes, when the security light goes out then turn the key off, wait a few seconds then you should be good to go.
after that has been completed if you have additional keys to program then you can use the programmed key for a quick relearn turn it to run when the security light goes out remove key and insert the next key and turn to run within 10 seconds, when the security light goes out, insert the next key and do the same for up to 4 keys. all keys must be done at the same time, once you have done the 30 minute relearn any other previous key's will not work unless you do the quick relearn with them as a follow up.

You may need a gasket. My gasket was like only like a year old so I just reused it. It's not bad of a job took me about an hour or so taking my time and pictures and such. 10MM and 8 mm sockets and pick tool for the connectors. Also however your PVC tube is attached I use a nylon tie on mine because it is a rubber hose.

Pop the intake cover off
Unplug the spark plug wires off the coils
Unplug the coil pack harness connector, there is a plastic locking insert you have to pop out first
Unplug the PVC hose
I think I also popped the vacuum hose out of the brake booster to make more space
5 10mm bolts for the coil pack rail, remove that
4 8mm cover bolts
Maybe move some wiring out of the way like the alt cable and injector harness

Not too bad

Some pics here if it helps

It's supposed to come with a new gasket and bolts, so we will see. Should I spray/Clean anything inside or just leave all of it alone and swap covers

That's great!!! Nah just clean the mounting gasket surface. Keep it simple. Also be aware apparently there are 2 types of covers depending on the year. I believe 07-08 have a different PCV valve than the 09 and up that "may" cause an engine light. I put an '09 and up on my '07 and it's been fine so far. Just wanted to let you know. It's in the GM tech bulletin. I found out too late after I bought a used one.

When putting the new cover back on, make sure you check and recheck the torque specs. Doesn’t take much to cinch them down and too much will result in a snapped bolt. Ask me how I know. :banghead:

I agree.

On the gasket, Rock Auto list the left cover for a 2007 at like $106, pictures show bolts, grommets and gasket. The hole for the PCV is in the correct (updated) place. Interestingly, they list the 2014 gasket for like $74 and it includes the bolts, grommets and gasket as well. It too has the hole for the PCV in the right place. Strange as I believe they are the same cover.

Definitely don't get it at Napa, like $196.

Gotcha. I didn’t have a security light.
