This was all new stuff?
yep, $500 amp and $650 pair of Jl's, the Jl's can be repaired i just have to have them shipped to jl but it wont be under warranty, the amp I am pretty sure is toast, because I waited so long to get all this stuff installed not much I can do but eat it.

Ouch. I’ve installed a bunch of audio over the years, never had that kind of bad luck. Sucks.

I followed the diagram in the manual which showed the "JL" on the back of the speaker facing up, on the diagram it shows positive-to-positive being vertical to each other but they are in fact diagonal, rookie mistake I thought I might have done it wrong but didn't double check and didn't think it would fry the coils but they are done smells like typical burnt electronics:(
This was to lower the ohms load? To 1?

I'm not sure if I read correctly--were the directions wrong, or you followed them wrong?

I think Wes followed the diagram literally like the picture but the voice coils are actually opposite each other. He wired up the second voice coil directly opposite the first one, so they were fighting each other. This would still show the desired impedance (1 ohm) at rest. But one VC would be trying to move the cone (piston) one way just as much as the other VC is trying to move it the other way.

the diagram in the manual had the polarity shown correct, it had the positions of the polarity on the speaker wrong in the diagram, the diagram showed the + polarity being top left and bottom left, but on the speaker they are actually top left corner and right bottom corner, I just followed the diagram and didn't pay attention to the details

They just use generic representative icons, mirror-imaged in the diagrams. You still got your 1 ohm cuz impedance isn't affected by polarity (on speakers).

That shouldn’t have blown anything up. It might not have sounded great since they were out of phase but that’s all.

it could have been a bad amp I dropped it off at the shop I usually go to today and he's is going to see if they can warranty it since they are a authorized memphis dealer

The person that had another memphis amp for sale turned into a flake. So I found another jl audio amp about 45 minutes away drove and picked it up this morning, got everything hooked up and working, got the seats back in. Finding space for the amps was tricky but it's all in. Had to switch some wires because bluetooth only works thru the front speakers and I was using the stock amp output from the rear speakers, now I need to make some L brackets to keep the subwoofer cabinet from sliding forward in case of a accident and figure out a place to put the bass knob

How’s it sound? I know you probably still have to tune it but you should have a good idea.

depends on the song but I like it, has a nice mix of highs and lows, I have it kind of quick tuned for right now I will take it out in a big parking lot somewhere and mess it with some more so I am not disturbing the neighbors, rattles the heck out of the garage door lol

plus it's running off the the stock radio and that only has high/low/mid adjustment once I get the better head unit in then I can make it sound better, for now I will have to just adjust the amps which is kind of a pia but it can be done

took it to the tire shop on Friday to get the front left slow leak fixed and have them rotate the wheels since they do it for free, when he pulled the front left wheel off we discovered the rim is bent on the backside, not real bad but I guess the couple times I hit a decent pothole over the last year it bent it in 2 different places. I took it off today and dropped it off at a wheel service place and hopefully they can straighten it out. they have been in business since 1883 so I have high hopes lol, but now I am really leaning towards doing a 4.5" lift which was my original plan anyway. I am looking at the CST 4.5" kit, probably have to get some different wheels and I would get my turn radius back and it wont widen the front.
