That's some crazy damage from a pothole. I know they're bad here, my wife wrecked a wheel one time. I chased the city for a while, then gave up when they got to the whole "how can you prove the pothole caused the damage?" phase. You have a dash cam in that rig?

No, no dash cam but I have a tow bill from that road. I’m gonna get pics in morning and try to piece together what happened.

The red circle is where she said the pothole was and the yellow circle is the prison maintenance road where she pulled in.

I talked to the city clerks office today and there’s a few issues with getting them to pay out damage for potholes. First, I need a police report which isn’t that hard to do. Second, there would need to be prior complaints or a record of someone informing the city about the road hazard 3 days prior to any claim being filed to allow the city to take corrective actions. Also they typically only pay half the repair due to any damage to a vehicle from a pothole is driver responsibility as much as the road maintenance responsibility. And they said it could take up to 18 months to get paid because it has to go thru a review board once the claim is filed and they would have to do an investigation. Seems like a bunch of ******** hoops to jump thru. Bottom line, she even said it, chances are it’ll get denied in the end because they only pay out about 20% of all the claims that are filed.

I didn’t get a chance to get any pics of the crater that caused the damage today because last night my dog got sprayed by a skunk so I was up wiping her down with hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, dish soap and warm water solution and then had to give her a bath. That was fun. I didn’t go to sleep until 5am this morning and crawled out of bed at 7:45 for Julianna’s e-learning shit.
I took the busted rims off the vehicle and inspected the suspension and frame. Everything looked ok. So I put the 02 Esky on jack stands and pulled the wheels and tires and put them on hers. I drove it to work today and everything seems fine but I’ll get a better look this weekend when I get under it and change the oil. I’m tired and frustrated as hell but at least her vehicle is back rolling again.
I guess these rims are discontinued. They ended the run on these this year and I guess they have been in production for 15 years. So nobody that even has them wants to sell only 2. They want to sell the full set. But if I gotta buy a full set I’m gonna get something else that is at the beginning of a run so I know they’ll be available for a while. I’ve been getting kicked while I’m down over and over again here lately. I also need to get 2 tires so this is gonna be another $2k after all is said and done.

In the meantime I’ll let her try her hand at ******* up these 22s also.

Ok here’s the crater that caused the damage. I took a video right as I got on that road until where she pulled off on maintenance entrance.

As you can see, it’s not in the roadway. It’s on the shoulder so it’ll be hard to blame the city for this one.

Damn. TBH, after seeing the damage it caused, I expected worse. And since it’s off on the shoulder. Can’t see them taking responsibility. But damn, that road looks like shit!! What was she doing.. 80 on that section!?

That’s a huge liability! That pot hole could roll a vehicle.


1) Verify on a map and w/ GPS coordinations on your phone the city and county the pot hole is located in.

2) Obtain a claim form from both. They may make you write in to request the claim form. File the claim w/ both, w/ pics via certified mail and return postal receipt card. Keep copies of both claim forms and postal Ppwk.

3) It doesn’t matter where the pot hole is. It’s there, it hasn’t been maintained or discovered when you encountered it. Lastly, be clear that you only want reimbursement for a specific item or list of repairs and to be made whole. Include the cost of the certified mail postage too [emoji846]

The city and county may point fingers at each other on who’s liable. Simultaneous claims will ensure they can’t run the clock down and say it’s too late, you should of filed with the other guy. Receipts and or estimates are key. They won’t pay out unless they have them in the claim.

You’re due for 2 of ea: A rim, tire, mount, balance, alignment and potentially shocks. Only the alignment can verify if there more damage like bent components or steering gear / seals damage. Ignore the comments on how past and current claims are paid and nonsensical statements about claims being honored only within three days of ...

We carry comprehensive coverage w/ a $250 deductible on our vehicles to CYA for situations like this.

Sorry about the dog. Our bulldog grabbed a new, 1gal container of antifreeze and chewed it up (inside) by the front door Sunday. She’s ok after a $1.1k vet stay. Experience taught us to have pet insurance. Nationwide paid 90% of that bill.

A lot has happened since my last update. Not even sure where to start. I’ll have to dig thru pictures to see what I can “show and tell”.
The latest thing that comes to mind was she caught the side molding on the chain link fence when she closed the door and tore it loose. She didn’t want it flapping and I wasn’t home so she ripped it off the rest of the way. Typical!

I ended up buying one of those eraser wheels. They actually work. I was skeptical at first and very hesitant but I figured if I can stay where the trim piece is gonna hide any marks from this wheel I should be good.

Suppose to use it on electric drill but my drill is at the old house still so I just turned air pressure down to 85 and it worked good.

Couple spots were stubborn and I didn’t want to dig in too hard. I can’t believe this wheel gets consumed so fast. I knew that it was consumable and would wear out but damn, all that mess on the floor is from the wheel itself. $12 I shouldn’t complain. At least I didn’t have to scrape it all off. I soaked it down with some Goof Off and scrubbed most of it the rest of the way off. The very edge is hard to remove and it probably won’t hurt nothing.
My biggest concern was with the alignment holes in door. The paint was chipped around the holes and I can’t just cover that up, I’ll hear it rusting while I’m trying to sleep and it’ll drive me crazy! So I sanded the spots down with some 400 and then used my touch up paint pen/brush thing to get the metal covered. Let that dry for 40 minutes and then used the clear thats on the bottom of the paint pen.

I guess I didn’t get any pictures but it looked like crap. I knew I was gonna wet sand it out anyway, I just wanted it sealed. Wet sanded with 1500, then 2000 after that stepped up to 2500 and finished off with 3000. It could have used another coat of clear but I didn’t have time. It’s covered anyway.

I could have left it at that, I didn’t sand outside what the molding covers so I may have been fine but I need to try to cut and polish this little scratch out anyway that she got on the rear right.

Broke out my 2” buffer/ polisher but went with 3” backer and pads on this one.

After getting aggressive with cutting compound I followed that up with polishing compound and I’m happy enough to get the trim ready to put on.

The scratch on back came out decent, I think I might wet sand it out but that’ll come later.

Looking fresh! It’s amazing what chemical guys polish compounds will do! V36, and V38 are my go to polish compound a for probably 95% of paint correction jobs. Lol
