Ive been trying out mileage of the gas tanks fulls for the different octanes myself. I can tell you that 93 has lasted me almost 3 days longer than with a tank of 87. I also towed a trailer with the 93. So maybe its worth the couple dollars more for the 93.

I got the same results when my 5.3 was stock. No pinging, more power and better mileage. Even if the cost per mile doesn't outweigh the cost per gallon, it's still worth it for the extra power and no detonation. Of course, now I HAVE to run 93 or higher octane.
