Does anyone know if it would be possible to retrofit a console subwoofer box from a 2003-2006 into a 2000-2002?

This would be going into a non-Bose 2001 Yukon XL (with 8” woofer in the LR panel).

Both woofers and all door speakers would be upgraded, along new amp/s.

Can I just bolt in the console subwoofer box under my 01 console and wire in a new subwoofer?

Or would I need the entire 03-06 console?

Hmm sounds like nobody has attempted this?

Would it even be worth it?

Are there any aftermarket options for 6.5” subwoofers which would be shallow enough to fit the stock console box??

The console isn't large enough (I don't think) to put the subwoofer in. I feel like the 03+ consoles are a little wider at the bottom. I added one to my 2001 Denali console. But that console was a totally different shape than the non-Denali console. You could swap in a newer console and wire it up.

Ahh okay good to hear that it would be feasible with a Denali console.

Did you use the original subwoofer or did you upgrade to an aftermarket woofer?

You’d be better off finding a stock rear sub enclosure that holds an 8” and has more volume.

I’ve been looking at powered woofers, and the Rockville SS8P looks like it will fit under the cup holder in the center console (just some very minor dremelling).

I’ll post photos when it is all done.

You won’t like it. I had one and it was more like mid bass, not like a regular sub. There’s no room in those small enclosures for any kind of output plus the built in amp is small. Just a heads up. I sold mine within a couple weeks.

Wow thanks for the heads up. What other powered sub is less than 10” wide?

I don’t know of any of those powered subs in those small enclosures that sound good unfortunately. I wish Rodneys Boxes made an enclosure for the NBS like he makes for the NNBS. I put one of his in my 08 Silverado and it hits hard with a 10” down firing JL. It utilizes all available space without interfering with anything. Maybe you can build something.

I wonder if the one @Fosscore added to his nbs would work for you? He has a build thread. You can also check it out in the classifieds, as he's selling his Tahoe, but he has all his mods listed.

EDIT--Look in here:

Wow Fosscore’a Tahoe is impressive. I see the build specs state that he has a Stealthbox in the console, but I can’t find any posts that show it.

There is indeed a lot of space under the center console, especially if one were to remove the storage compartment and build a more shallow one to be able to use the space below it.

On the other hand, perhaps more of a less punchy mid-bass in the console may not be that bad, given that a strong woofer would rattle everything in the cup holder and console compartment.

Plus, building a box would also require a separate woofer and amp, further increasing the cost.

Dilemma continues. I guess I’ll do some research and cost analysis.

I’m telling you, the powered one will leave you unsatisfied especially if you already have a rear sub. You won’t even know it’s there and that money could be put toward a decent setup.
Edit: when the sub fires down you don’t really get much console rattling.

Pretty sure it won't fit into an 01 console. Again, I think the console is not wide enough. I could be wrong.

Hmmm okay, good point.
