Good work. When I did my Silverado interior which included the console lid, I bought a special air stapler that shot 5/32” long staples so I could staple to the thin plastic without shooting through the other side. That stuff is definitely a PIA!

Where did u get it? Do u remember a model or something to identify it. I could't find anything alike. I have amanual stapler, but the staples are too large for this application

I got one off Amazon. I returned it after I used it, I only shot a few staples so it was still new imo. I forgot where I ordered the staples from, it was something like staple depot. I know it says 1/4-5/8 staples but it shot the super short ones too, I just bought the Senco c series staples.

Water pump, thermostat and fan clutch in. I have heat now!

Now to figure out why I get a pop from the front left area when turning left only when it's damp or raining. Quiet as a mouse when not wet.

Welp, drove it to move my daughter out of her dorm and when we got back I checked the coolant level. It was way low. Crap. I knew what that meant. Pulled the covers and found this. Looks like it is new heads and sludge cleaning time. Haven't pulled the rockers to see but since they're 706's I'm betting on Castech. It's been sitting since that drive a few weeks ago. Since I'm working from home for the month, I'll have time to replace on my own.

What all should I have on my shopping list? And would you trust ebay remanufactured?

Replaced the rear left side lock actuator ( used AC Delco ) last Sunday. I was surprised how easy it was. I think it may have taken 40 minutes. I could probably shave off 10 minutes if I had to do it again. Was amazed how easy it was to remove the door card.

Went through this a year ago on my brother's '05 Sierra. Classic Castech failure. It had been a slow leak over a long period of time, likely since before he bought the truck, so the whole inside was sludged up. The leak was slow enough that the liquid burned off and never made a milkshake on the oil filler cap. What prompted investigating was he suddenly lost oil pressure after the average pressure readings had been gradually decreasing over a couple of weeks. While accelerating in a turn, a large chunk of sludge broke free and was sucked up to the pickup tube, blocking it off. Just mentioning this as a warning in case things look much worse once you pop off them heads.

Pulled the motor to scrub it out by hand and replace all the usuals- timing set, oil pump, lifters etc. and the top end parts that were damaged from the lack of oil- rockers, pushrods, etc. We never found a set of non-Castech 706 heads and, after this experience, just didn't feel we could trust another set of them. We did find a local deal on some low-mile 799s from a 2010 Silverado. They work fine, but the compression was dropped slightly. I don't think he could tell cuz it ran so much better afterward regardless. If it were me, I would've gotten thinner gaskets to maintain or slightly increase the compression. The cost of the gaskets would probably be the same or cheaper than OEM gaskets and head shaving (even if just a cleaning pass).

I've never had to replace the dowels and I've never needed to find TDC to torque the rockers. I just put the rocker anywhere on the cam's base circle. You have more than a 150° range on the base circle.

Ehh. I'd research the hell out of the company, their reviews, etc. Find out what they're referring to as "reman'ed". They may be finding non-cracked heads, sonic checking them and giving them a full clean-up and machine job. I'd probably trust this enough to try them if the price was right. I know other places weld up cracked ones then perform the reman process. Personally, I'd avoid those. I'm not saying they can't be repaired properly and reliably. But, it's precision welding which still includes the human element of possible error and failure compounded with a casting known to be flawed. Yeah, they may warranty the work. But, that doesn't cover the potential damage that may occur if a new head were to crack, any hardships that may result (you know it'll only fail on a roadtrip), the costs of more gaskets and other materials, etc.
