I've been on the forum for 45 minutes searching through threads, I can't find a write up anywhere on it. Believe me, I've searched. I know how this works too, one of you is going to find a thread immediately. o_O :baby:

Anyways, I've picked up a dashcam and want to grab power from the mirror, I'd just like to see how any of you may have done it.

TIA

I know for a fact that folks have posted here about this exact issue but I think something is jacked up with the search function. A couple days ago some of us noticed that we lost all of our history when we went to look at our individual post history.

Might see if @NathanJax can help.

I am Looking into it the exact same thing but haven't pulled the trigger yet. I found the pinout of the 16 pin mirror connector over on www.gm-trucks.com. Info is below.

https://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/51376-rearview-mirror-wiring-pinouts/

used

2 - Microphone (if the mirror is equipped with it)
3 - "Passenger Air Bag on" notification (if mirror is equipped with that display)
4. - "Passenger Air Bag off" notification (if mirror is equipped with that display)
5 - auto day/night signal, which comes from the LH outside rearview mirror
6 - Temp probe connection ( if mirror is equipped with display)
7 - Temp probe connection (if mirror is equipped with display)

8 - Ground

9 - one source says it's a Reverse Dim Inhibit signal so the mirror will not dim when
the vehicle is in reverse, another says it's a supply voltage from a back-up supply
(I guess so Onstar will still work in the event that the main evehicle battery is disabled in an accident).
I'm pretty sure if 12v is applied to this pin, the mirror will not dim no matter what.
10 - Microphone (if mirror is equipped)
11- keypad signal (out) for On-star (pressing any button puts out a 5v multiplexed signal on this pin,
- so you can't just use the buttons to control whatever you want to. Sorry.)
12 - keypad supply (5v) voltage (in) for the buttons

13 - ignition voltage (12v -main power IN to the mirror)

14 - keypad green LED signal
15 - keypad red LED signal
16 - return line to the LH outside mirror for day/night signal

I believe either @kbuskill or @Doubeleive ran power to a radar detector from the mirror harness.

I remember reading about it last year sometime in a dashcam thread

I am pretty sure the right middle +wire is pink I couldn't verify without contorting myself, if not just check the middle right wire for power, only powers on with the key in the run position, not a constant.

I found the matching connector and pin out from multiple sources. The picture below matches to the picture Wes posted. From bottom to top Red/White, empty, Green, empty, Grey, White, Blue, Black. Pink will be pin 13 midway down on the left side of the connector which is hidden by the wiring. Now I have to find the data for my Gen 4 Suburban.

the 15+ only put out about 10v max at the mirror, you have to tap into the airbag light harness in the console above the mirror, I discovered that the hard way

The power wire seems to hand accessories up there just fine. I’m using it to power a 12v to 5v micro USB converter for my dash cam and also send 12v to my radar detector. It’s nice to have everything automatically power up when starting up and shutting down automatically too. No loose wires anywhere either.
Note if you do decide to mount a dash cam and radar detector dump the suction cups and use the 3M Dual Lock fastener strips (Velcro on steroids). A consumer pack is only $3 at your big box hardware outlet. It gives a nice tight and clean install up high and out of the way.

I finally mounted my rear dash cam and connected everything to switched power. there was an unused harness in the roof of my PPV that had a switched power wire so i tapped into that for the power. For the rear cam I used a fish tape and ran the wires straight back through the head liner. I used a self tapping screw in the overhead to get a good ground.

There was plenty of room to store all the extra cable in the ceiling.
