Yeah that’s about how I feel. I very much would like to get a junkyard 5.3 or a vortecmax and start building that in my garage, but right now it’s hard to justify the cost. It’s a shame I couldn’t keep my old one. Damn core charges. Will see though. Aluminum 5.3 would be slick.

I want to make a 2wd Tahoe a drift toy/fun mobile. Gutted interior and a hole in the floor for maybe a camaro stickshift. In a 07/08 with a 4L60e, a 6.2 I think wouldn’t bolt up, and if it did you’re gonna really piss it off. I think the only non 5.3 gen 4 that fits a 4L60e is the vmax 6.0?

edit: and I think at that point, doesn’t the vmax have VVT? Something the 07/08s don’t have a harness plug for?

Well......they replaced a spark plug, said that all of the cylinders are losing compression. One is about 50% of what it should be.

So.....besides saving money, what are my options.

I can either

1: drop another engine in it and just keep it as a daily
2: buy a beater/daily driver and slowly work on the Tahoe
3: trade in and buy a new vehicle

I'm wanna keep this and run it into the ground, so it can become my learning vehicle and I can start doing what I want when I get something else.

Trade in value at excellent condition is $4500 on Edmunds for my area. Private is $4800-5000

Its not near excellent condition at all.

I'm just kinda torn, the new suburban was nice and not having to worry about anything going wrong would be a great peace of mind, but at the cost of a hefty payment which would put me at almost paycheck to paycheck, and I don't want that at all.

@Doubeleive these are the two radios I’ve been looking at. The android would be cool because its essentially a tablet with a bunch of extra equipment. The Sony would be cool because its gonna be way easier to set up.

Dropped the Tahoe off at the mechanic to figure out the P0300 code. Hopefully it's nothing serious.....

Random misfire check for vacuum leaks or disconnected/broken hose is a good place to start....

i would have it towed to the shop it only takes few miles of driving to damage the cat

That’s awesome. How long does it take to power on? I’m seriously considering putting one in mine if the boot time is decent so it doesn’t take ages to get to the backup camera. I’ll also be putting one in my girlfriend’s Mazda when she gets it.

It’s an XVA-AX1000. IIRC it’s got Bluetooth and does for sure have CarPlay.

I got a P0300 in my S10 once after putting a Duralast distributor cap/rotor in it after ~8,000 miles. Swapped out for an AC Delco cap/rotor, no more problems.

I didn’t get the back up camera. I have them in 2 other cars, but never pay attention to them. I’d rather turn my head and know what is around me. Just old school I guess...probably because I’m old

I mainly use the mirrors and turn my head as well, but with 4 kids of my own, one with special needs, and others in the cul-de-sac, the rear camera is a great thing to just make sure no one is behind me when I'm backing out of my driveway.

That being said, I was not allowed to drive a car until my dad was satisfied that I could drive well enough in reverse. Made me drive around our block in reverse just to prove that I could use mirrors. Came in very handy one night when I was in high school and I lost all forward gears in my tranny and had to drive home in reverse. Luckily there aren't many people out at 9:30 pm.

I did pretty much the same with my 3 kids. My biggest gripe with the backup camera is that it gives you a narrow field of view. It’s like driving forward with blinders on. I have nothing against them

Use thicker oil, take it easy on the old girl, and pray. And most important, TELL YOU YOU LOVE HER. EVERY DAY.

I vote towards replacement engine. Perhaps a running lowish mileage used one? And keep the old one to slowly rebuild and then swap back?

and yes compression test from another shop, and ask for the numbers. On my 1st engine at 226k when the lifter let go I was between 200psi on the highest and ~150ish on the lowest.
