I just had my 2018 Tahoe stolen. Apparently there is a ring or probably several in my area that targets GM trucks and SUVs and they're really good at it. How does this happen? Onstar can't track it. Only message I got was from Onstar that the oil life was 0%. Nothing else. I think because of all this lack of key stuff and push button start it has only made it easier to take. They just disable onstar, hack the system and drive away without a trace but not sure. Still traumatized and in shock.

Out of curiosity where do you live?

I will be living in hotels up and down I-95 for the next 5 weeks so will be keeping a close eye on my Hoe during the overnight hours.

^^^this is why I put a seperate gps tracker on my 2018 silverado and my 2012 yukon, otherwise you need to have lojack installed
onstar can track the vehicle but you have to file a police report first
Factory-Installed (Automaker) Systems
GM's OnStar
Stolen vehicle recovery is one of many features of GM's OnStar service, which is better known for its crash notification feature. If your car is stolen, you first file a report with the police, then contact OnStar immediately. If all goes well, the police and OnStar will work together to recover your vehicle. If the thief leads the police on a chase, OnStar can use a unique new feature, Stolen Vehicle Slowdown, to assist police in their capture and to prevent accidents.

Sorry man, where do you live? Start watching craigslist, offerup, letgo, etc. for parts.

Just put the transfer case in neutral and chocked the wheels...

that sucks, sorry to hear.

for others & for future reference,
put your key in an altoid tin or faraday bag.

they could have walked up to your door or somewhere close at your residence w/ a transmitter/extender that extends the range of your key. they can then unlock & start your vehicle. then drive off.

happened in my area. 1 vehicle stolen & multiple broken into, except mine. as i had my fob protected, after reading multiple articles a few years ago.

I keep my fobs in small metal safe. I read about them hijacking your signal from outside the house. If they steal mine I don’t want it back anyway.

Hey fellas, what was it, two or three months ago one of the guys on here was vacationing in Dallas and they stole his 3rd row at the hotel? Remember that? Then he found it on CL and tried to meet the perps but they must've spotted him and took off?

I was in Dallas for a couple weeks in May 2019 and one night 3 Yukons / Tahoes had their 22" wheels stolen in a matter of minutes. I learned through a local mechanic that was installing replacement wheels on one of the jacked Yukons that the Zeta's have an extensive professional ring running in Dallas and throughout Texas and would not be surprised if they've developed a system for quickly taking these vehicles.

Thieves are scum. One step above a child molester. This rig will likely be parted out asap. Or could already be in a container heading out to sea. Sorry for the bad luck.

Do you have a good tracking device you could recommend? Iv been trying to find one for a while but so far none of them have the features I want.

That sucks, sorry to hear that. Hopefully your insurance does not try to lowball you, I know it's up to actual cash value at the time of loss, hopefully you have gap coverage.

I had a viper 5906v alarm system installed and added a dsm550 4g/gps module, I also added a glass break sensor and a tilt sensor. the gps part does not disable the vehicle but it does allow you track the vehicle. It's mostly a deterrent even if they came along with some kind of oem remote extender which is usually how they do it, then it would still trigger the viper system and send me a text, email, and phone app alarm and trigger the two-way remote fob. then they would have to have time to also disable the viper system because it is installed after the factory system and has a starter kill. so they could still get around it if they really wanted to but it's going to be noisy and more trouble I have the alarm speaker connected and the vehicle horn and a high decibel piezo speaker inside the vehicle. I can set a "digital fence" so even if it was towed away the gps would trigger the alarm once it moves from wherever it was last parked. If the wife or anyone else is driving it I can see where they are and how fast they are moving from my phone or online from any web browser. Lojack would be better (theft wise) but it's not a traditional alarm system. I had a previous vehicle stolen with the keys in it I only had the 3g module and no gps when that happened so I couldn't track it, so ever since then I have a more upgraded system. I have learned from previous experience, like thieves will break a rear window and climb inside they never open a door so the factory alarm or even a standard aftermarket never goes off and they can do whatever they want inside, so I added the glass sensor (detects if the glass breaks), the tilt sensor prevents them from stealing the wheels if they jack it up the alarm triggers.
