Got the motor moved today and the old harness off. Was going to build a harness but thinking about just having it done.
Hoping I can pick that up next month. If I sneak out tonight may start tearing it down. If the weather holds start decent may try to get the car moved in the next week or two. May be able to update this thread finally but next step is finding the keys for the car and trailer...

Found the Cadillac keys but not the trailer keys yet. Damn

Started tearing the motor down last night and used a scope to look into the cylinders. Surprisingly, even though the outside was pretty dirty, you could still see cross hatching on walls so this may be a decent motor after all.

Not sure you can really tell in the pictures but these exhaust manifold bolts are not quite straight. On the same side (drivers) they helped me out by breaking the others off in the block. Guessing they had a quality mechanic perform some work at some point.

Found this gem which, unless they swapped out gaskets themselves with OEM or using that same quality mechanic, could be still the factory gaskets.

Found several of these mud dauber creations in some interesting spots.

And where we left off for the weekend.

As you can see she isn't the prettiest of motors but honestly really happy considering it has sat for over 10 years in different garages that were not climate controlled.

Next up is degreasing and power washing (maybe several times) and mocking up with the new intake manifold then paint and reassembly.

If I can ever find the trailer keys, next weekend we should be moving the car over and maybe start stripping the interior.

Not much of an update but excited to finally having something to update.

LS engines snap exhaust manifold bolts by themselves, mostly the ones on the ends. But that rocker cover gasket is some straight up BS.

Speaking of, and I don't know if I ever sent these to you, but I found two (old!) pics I had of my modded accessory bracket:

Disregard that pulley bracket hanging under the alternator. There's a bolt boss behind it that you can bolt that idler pulley directly to- no relocator bracket necessary. You can see the location of the TB (covered in black tape) mounted to the LS6 intake. If you compare your bracket to the first pic, you should be able to see where I cut it. I smoothed down the cut edge with a flap disc so, other than the shiny fresh-cut metal, you'd never know it was modded.

You can also get an idea of the water pump outlet arrangement. That's the stock truck WP and, in the first pic, you can kinda see the outlet neck and how it goes up and very close to the throttle cable wheel on the TB. I think that was the 80MM BBK TB, which came with a 1/2" thick spacer/adapter, so that is probably how that cable wheel clears. The round blank on the front of the WP is where the outlet is on the LS1/F-body WP, but the LS1 accessory spacing is closer to the motor than the truck's. The L99 (2010+ Camaro) WP has the truck accessory spacing AND the front-firing outlet AND it's on the driver's side of the pulley which, as you can see in the first pic, would clear the belt just as well. So it's an OEM bolt-on solution for everything.

I was going to look up those emails as I want quite sure on that pulley.

IIRC, the pulley just needs to be spaced out about 32 or 33mm. Either have a spacer made (I had one cut from a chunk of aluminum rod with a 33mm diameter and a hole drilled through the center) or use a stack of washers. You'll need a bolt of the same dimensions as what's currently going through that idler pulley plus 32 or 33mm.

Last night we decided to do some mock up with the LS1 intake. Found out that I will need to get LS1 steam lines and that I was not happy with trying to modify the truck water pump.

Rotated it as others had suggested and still couldn't get the throttle body on. Got out the old trusty hammer and massaged the nipple. No dice but figured we were replacing this one anyways so why not just "massage" it till it fits? A little more and could get the TB on and the throttle would turn freely but hit the nipple at, what I assume, would be wide open which is where I plan to drive most of the time.

While brain storming my buddy looks over the LS3 6.0 out of 2010ish conversion van that he has sitting next to my motor (this is normal, right?). Water pump looks like it would solve all the world's issues. Instead of coming out vertically and doing a 45 it came out start at a 45 with a straight nipple. So we did what any of you would do and swapped out over and just like that I had the clearance in the all the right places.

So now I have to take back the truck water pump and get one for a van. We did check a 2010 5.3 Sierra that was there and it appears to be the same.
