Hello everyone! Since our GM's are a bit older, with a few miles on them, I was curious as to what flavor of motor oil you're giving them to keep them going? I just got back in the Tahoe family this last week after being away for a couple of years, and plan on getting her a fresh oil change in the next couple of weeks.

I'm planning on using Valvoline 5W-30 conventional at first, since she has sat for a few months before I bought her. Afterwards, I'll upgrade to the synthetic version for regular use. The engine was rebuilt at 120K, so, no leaks to worry about using high mileage oils yet. :)

So, what does your Tahoe/Yukon love?

No one has called me on it yet but I use the Amazon basics 10w-30 full synthetic with absolutely no problems. Made at the same plant as Mobil 1 and in side by side tests on numerous sites, it either has tied Mobil 1 or beat it in many tests.

But yea, another "what oil should I use" thread. Yawn!

Didn't know fluid questions were an issue in this forum. Good to know...
They aren't and please ignore the peanut gallery. Everyone will be happy to help answer any questions and the previous comments are only in jest. There are some links that will help you find the pre-existing threads and some more "humor" along the way. Just poke right back at em.

Yea, bring it on! Not an issue but is brought up on a regular basis and most of us can just save our responses and then copy/paste them in new threads. It is all in fun. :argue:

As the folks above have posted, please take any wise-crack comments as comments made in jest and fun. A-holes are not welcome in this Forum, and just about all folks who post frequently are definitely not A-holes.

There are certain topics/questions that get asked very frequently on this Forum, like this question regarding motor oil preferences, and there is a mountain of information in this Forum for those frequently asked questions. Unfortunately, the search tool in this Forum leaves a lot to be desired, so finding previously posted information can be a challenge. As such new folks often try to search, find very limited valuable returns for their search inquiries, and end up asking the question in a new post on the Forum.

So, when a frequently asked question pops up in the Forum as a new post, the wise-crack comments start to pop up by the regulars in the Forum. But, to be clear again, it is all in jest and fun. As you can see, folks have provided the OP with links to existing relevant information contained in previously posted threads.

The only parts store I visit is NAPA if I have to go to one. Their brand of filters are made by WIX and I use them sometimes.

I’m giving the amazon basics a whirl too. I did the same research. Seems to compare pretty well.

They don't spend a bunch of money on advertising and labeling/packaging. The oil is great quality and way less expensive. A 5 quart jug of 10w-30 full synthetic is $26.08 at Amazon right now. Mobil 1 is feeling the pinch because a 5 quart jug is $25 right now for 10w-30 full synthetic at the moment but will not last and the high mileage version is $44.

Sorry about that. I did do a search, but, I might not have worded it right. Besides, I'm a member of BobIsTheOilGuy.com, and A-Holes are plenty there. They just get ignored, as well.
