Yellow Top for 07+ Denali?

Hi,

Does anyone know of an Optima Yellow Top battery version that would work in the NNBS Denali?

Their compatibility chart only shows the Red Top version for my truck.

I'm not really sure I even need the deep cycle yellow top but I just figured if I'm going to buy one I might as well buy the best available.

In fact I was going to buy two of them and have the second installed in the auxiliary space for it.

Serge, yellow top is designed for vehicles that have the electronics running while the vehicle is off. Otherwise it's really pointless.

I'd also suggest a different battery. I've had yellow top batteries in my old truck for stereo purposes and they burned the cells out quick.

Also had the blue top marine batteries in my boat (3 of them) and they also burnt cells quick.

Just renders them useless.

Interesting ... on the whole reviews seemed to be rather positive on the optima batteries.

What brand would you suggest?

I have always had good luck with yellow tops I have not heard good things about red tops. I had the p/n for a yellow top at one but forgot it so I will see if I can find it again.

I have heard some bad stuff about yellow tops but never have used them personally. I have heard better review about Kinetik power cells though.
You may run into some issues getting aftermarket batteries to fit the stock location due to the way the stock styled batteries are held in place, and the position of there terminals, but some modification will solve that.

I've always had best of luck with your top-of-the-line Interstate Batteries.

I want to get rid of my highly inconsistent voltage and flicker every time I use an accessory.

i understand that it will take more than a battery swap, but I wanted to upgrade the battery first and add a second one. Then if that doesn't remedy it do the big 3 upgrade, or is it big 6 if you have two batteries? If that doesn't solve it then I guess explore a better alternator?

I dunno, it's not a major deal ... right now I just want to get a couple of high quality batteries in there and see if it makes a difference. It's not like it will hurt anything.

Paying more money for something you don't need doesn't make sense. Start with your big 3, see where that takes you. My suggestion would be a larger alternator if you must, but you aren't going to find one OEM.

Duralast is a good battery. I've had good luck with them. Not sure who the "real" manufacturer of that battery is.

Ok I've heard of Johnson Controls. Don't know much about then other than they are pretty main stream.

Duralasts gold is a good battery. That's what I run in my 07 F150 and haven't had a problem with it. I leave my stereo running for quite a long time and when I go to turn it on it doesn't hesitate to start.

Batteries are another Veblen Good Serge...

Get the store brand with the highest numbers and you'll have the best battery you can get...yes, better than Optima because they don't even have batteries as powerful as, say Advance Auto Part's brand.

For example, the battery I got for my '92 K1500 that will have a winch someday:

$100, and I used a $30 off $100 coupon and got it for $70...
Specs: 800 CCA, 1000 CA.

$190 Opitima Yellow Top: 750 CCA, 870 CA.

The Optima claims to have a longer reserve capacity...of 5 minutes.

I have my radio in the truck hardwired to a switch on the dash, left it running one night (got home while talking on the phone with the radio turned down..doh!), didn't get back in the truck for 3 days. My subwoofer amp is also on the same switch, and when I unlocked my doors I immediately cussed myself...but the radio was still on, and the truck cranked right back up. Ha!

I had a red-top in my '05 F-150, hated it. Died on me after about 7 months and wouldn't take a charge, warrantied that bad boy out and got my refund.

So here's an interesting fact ...

I'm at the dealership getting routine service and I handed them the two new batteries ... one to swap and one to add.

The service manager couldn't figure out how to connect the second battery so he got on the phone with gm to find out what is required. Turns out that to do this after the truck has left the factory it would need retrofitting of a new engine harness.

Yikes, is it really that complicated to bridge two batteries?

well for now the new Duralast Platinum is pumping out 15V on the dash display when the old battery was suck between the 9-14V numbers at about 12V ... could be because it's just charging tho.

The thing about these trucks is that they have a volt range programmed into the BCM ... I think they do it for fuel efficiency reason cause putting out more power than is needed obviously requires energy.

The service manager said no pulley, Big 3, or alternator upgrade would really change anything as the BCM would simply readjust the current ... he said that if I was dead set on putting out a constant 14V, he could look into BCM reprogram for me.

15V nice. a BCM reprogram sounds nice I hate that when I unlock my truck the interior lights are dim but once I turn them on there nice and bright.
