As the title states, I'm going to be in the market to buy an 18-20 Yukon XL Denali once my 05 Ram 2500 sells. I've seen the 18-20's recommended over previous years due to the issues with the 8 speeds, however I have seen that all models with the 6.2's seem to have a chance of lifter issues, and I've also seen that the 10 speeds can be problematic. Whichever year I buy, I plan on doing the AFM and DOD delete and doing an aftermarket cam/springs/retainers as well as the lifters to avoid that issue. My question is, considering I plan on removing the problematic lifters/cam, does it really matter which year (18-20) I buy? I've seen the 20's recommended over the 18's and 19's as they have been the most revised, allegedly, but I wasn't sure if any hard parts in the trans had actually been changed or if the chances of failure basically remain the same in those years. I'm a mechanic so I'm not afraid to dig into it if need be, but if the 20's are verified to be more reliable as far as the 10 speeds go, I'll stick to seeking out a 20 specifically.
