Wiper motor question

I need a little help. My wipers didn't work today when the rain started. I hit the motor and they started, conclusion is the motor is bad. I quick looked in LMC to find one, $100 isn't horrible but I'll look around

My question is this: Do I need the unit with or without the delay? I have intermittant wipers, is that what the delay is?

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe this is the case.

Also, $100 seems kinda steep. The ones at my store retail between $40-$65 for the front motor on a 97 Tahoe.

I'm assuming it's the front wipers that are your problem. I have an A1 Cardone number of 40-158 for reman and 85-158 for new. World Power Solutions is WPM158. Dorman/OES is 601-101 (discontinued, but showing one in warehouse). I hope this helps.

Might not be the wiper motor but rather the circuit board controlling the wiper motor.
This was a known issue that caused a recall by GM when wiper motors were stopping.
If it is this board, you can get one for like $25 from Amazon.

Easy to R&R too!

front wipers in the culprit. Looks like some come with e new circuit board. Like I said I could hit it and it would work. So Napa has them rather cheap. I may just pull it out and go get one.

Pull the circuit board out ( after pulling cover) and resolder the big pins. 99% of the time problem solved........both of my hoes.

yes you want delay and you might just try doing the control board only.

good to know, the crappy part is it's working again now so it's tough to find the issue.

Mine were like that too...it was the circuit board, and its very common. Cheap part too.

Had to replace the circuit board on my '98 also. Sometimes the wipers would work, sometimes they wouldn't. Now they work 100% of the time.

cool, thanks. The motor sounds weak and doesn't seem to pull the wipers down as low as they used too. The board is controlling the motor though right? Like a VFD on an AC motor? So if the board goes bad the motor loses power?

I would not describe it that way but yes board controls motor.

I work with a lot of AC industrial motors, it's how I relate things

Or is this more like the resistor on teh HVAC controls?

The solder joints at the power connector crack and make an intermittent contact. That's why sometimes they work, stop halfway, don't work, at random.

I should have done a write up with pics when I did mine, but I'm traveling to Canada 95% of the time now for work, so no more time to help out here.

This is what happened to my 95. I paid to fix it then got a rebate from GM.
