Mods feel free to move b/c this probably has a better location than here...
I ask this because I am genuinely curious.
I notice a lot of you guys have multiple SUVs, especially of the same generation. It probably comes with the enthusiast territory.
What's the benefits of having multiple SUVs? I feel like I would end up driving one way more than another, but I've also never had the luxury of having two of the same car lol.
I get asked that all the time from coworkers, inlaws, etc. For me, growing up, there were always multiple vehicles around. It was normal to ride in and drive various makes and models.
High school, '56 Chevy Sedan and '65 C20.
After high school, same, but added a '70 F100 in 1992. The 56 was from mom. The trucks were grandpa's.
1996-Sold the F100.
1997-Bought dad's '79 GMC Sierra Grande 4x4 after he passed. He was going to give it to me, my brother made me buy it help pay for the funeral costs.
1998-Ended up selling the 56, didn't want to but needed to. Long, bad story.
2001-Sold the 79 to my other brother.
2002-Bought a 91 Cherokee 4x4. 88k, now has 227k on original drivetrain. One of the best, most reliable vehicles I have owned.
2005-Rolled the C20. Bought another 65 C20, it turned out to have a junk frame. Needs to be rebuilt with good parts.
2009-Bought a 2005 Outback, good car, but not for a single guy, sold it to my then girlfriend in 2012. It served its purpose hauling around me, the dogs, the girlfriend and her kids before she got it.
2012-Bought a 2007 Forester 2.5 XT Limited, fun car! This replaced the outback, and got me back to shifting gears again.
2012-Bought an 81 C20 because I needed a running truck. Good truck, wife hates it. I offered 1k expecting to haggle, the PO said come get your truck off my property.
2015-Bought a 65 C20 because I missed the sound of old gear box under the floorboard. Wrecked it 6 years later thanks to a-hole-e-o pulling out in front of me, nowhere to go but hit his truck. Needs work.
2018-Wife bought a 2017 Buick Regal 2.0t, fun car!
2025-We talked about having a full size SUV for when her family visits, so we can load up the dogs, the gear, and the people and still be comfortable. Looked at suburbans, but bought the 2005 Tahoe LS 4x4, good vehicle.
Need to cull. Most likely will be the FXT, and considering the wrecked C20 along with it.
The regal is a one-owner car. The rest except for the junk frame 65 c20 are 2nd-owner and 3rd-owner vehicles.
Why? Because it's good to have variety, and back-up wheels when working on another one.
