What's this for on the air intake?

My 2007 flexfuel tahoe doesn't have the box on the air intake in this pic. I bought it used, so is something missing or is this for something else? Just curious and you guys know it all. Thanks,

That is a sound reducer/noise suppresor on the intake tube.

It is the helmholtz resonator.

LOL, that's not my truck, mine doesn't have the silencer. I saw it on a few trucks and used that pic for reference. Was trying to figure out why mine didnt'. Here is a pic of mine without it. Looks like it was never there.
