Is anyone using the new Valvoline restore & protect with the factory lifters (AFM/dod)? I was going to start using it but then I remembered the issue we have with these lifters and the oil passages getting clogged and causing lifter failures, etc. etc..

That's precisely WHY you'd use ValvoResPro - to protect the lifters by keeping the oil passages from clogging!

Its more of a quality issue on the lifters. A bad part. They all go at some point. Good maintenance and clean oil it happens later than sooner. So you can piush it off but not prevent it. There are no 250K original lifter guys on this motor that I have ever seen. I have seen guys with 300-400K on the original motor but had a lifter go then did a delete. Its a good long term motor...if you mechanically delete it. Our truck had prpoer synthetic oil changes since new. we now do every 5k with full synthetic Valvo restroe and protect and a wix filter and use 5w/30 for last 40,000 miles. Truck has almost 100K and runs like a sewing machine. Inside is clean as a whistle, as I had to reseal the lower oil pan. I have all the parts for the mechanical delete ready to go. Either wait till it goes or do it on my terms when i have time?/....TBD

Use 5w/30 restore and protect and good luck.

Correct but I’m talking about starting to use restore and protect on an engine that has 145,000 miles on it already that has never used restore and protect. In other words, all the sludge and buildup that the new oil would remove could possibly end up in those passages…

I’ve gone into a rabbit hole with the oil geek guy and it seems it’s not an issue
