Is the Volant that much better than the Airaid, I have? I hear the ‘roar’ pretty good too.
I think, my good air filter is fine….

Probably no really big difference between the 2. I'd think it would mostly depend on what filter you're running.

A big reason for the noise reduction is federal noise regs. I'd guess it's also a big driver of the 'funky' OEM design.

I have a Volant in my 03 6.0 swapped Tahoe--I LOVE IT!! It's pretty loud, you really hear the roar of the motor, even if you just give it a 1/4 pedal. I have the optional snorkel that mounts near the front tow hook.

Definitely was going to get the snorkel too! They used to make it for our GMT900 SUVs but now only the pickups.

I've seen that guy a few times on 'Engine Masters'. Never seen his YT stuff. FWIW, he struck me as a clown.

On some forms of media he does come across that way or used to so he could appeal to a certain demographic I guess. Most of his newer Youtube videos are more matter of fact and appeal to adults rather than teenagers. He's quite knowledgeable and I've learned a lot from his videos and articles over the years.

My memory is that the engineers (I read their posts on a square body pickup forum somewhere years ago) designed the GMT800 airbox to handle the airflow needs of the 8.1 Vortec motor which made 340 horsepower. The GMT900s share the same design. I also remember most people getting no appreciable gains in power or torque or reduced ETs with stock 5.3s as they produce less power than that. The 6.2s do make more power on a stock engine with an improved airbox and filter.

A few years ago Project Farm on YouTube tested a bunch of different air filters using the stock airbox on his GMT800 Suburban and it did run a little faster with some filters than others. I think the Purolator was the big winner back then. I run those big thick A3085C in all of my trucks, 5.3 and 6.2s.

Another week another emergency!

This past Wednesday a lady walks up to my wife and asks if she can hold her dog while she walks into Publix (grocery store) to grab something real quick. My wife obliges and waits. And waits some more and turns her head to see the lady coming out the other door and running away. She hollered after to no avail. So now we have a 4 month old puppy that is under 5 pounds. Out of six dogs, the smallest of those is 50 pounds and the largest around 120. Sure not used to looking at fu fu dogs anymore! LOL

Well, two days after that my wife doubles over in pain and we rush her to the hospital. She had appendicitis and had it surgically removed the next day. Stayed overnight for observation and was home by dinner and she wants to head back to work on Monday. Tough woman!

So as it relates to the forum and trucks, the Yukon made multiple runs a day to and from the hospital and ran like a top even though she's way overdue for an oil change and tire rotation now in this 100 degree heat. Tomorrow she gets cleaned and still trying to entice my son-in-law to come over and change the oil, if he'd return my calls!
