where can I find an updated disk?

Ebay for cheap ones. The problem is, the last update for the 2011 and earlier was in 2016. I keep emailing GM and Navteq (now called Here!) but maybe we should start a thread and get a bunch of us to hit them with emails every week?

that sucks. I seen the last update was 2016 but was hoping there was newer. I'm tired of driving in all the new construction and the map says I'm driving in the bushes

I have emailed HERE repeatedly to no avail. They said they would be happy to produce a new disc if GM authorized it but I think that's BS. I wish someone smarter than me would come up with a hack so we could burn a new disc.

I also wonder if the system can be switched out with a later, hard drive based system from say a 2013? Any ideas on this swathdiver?

The latest they have for the 2012-2014 units is still 2016 data.

That's why I hate factory navys, I'm in the same boat with my other 2 vehicles (Honda and a Nissan).

Phone is so much easier to use.

I'd actually be curious if someone can articulate an actual advantage of the factory nav system over apps on your smartphone - Google, maps.me, waze, etc.

I agree that the factory NAV is a a joke. Mine frustrated the crap out of me the last two days.

Phone is so much easier to use.

I can't see any advantage of it over using a phone.

There has to be a way to get say a Here! disc made for Volvo or Saab and get it to work in ours, I just don't have the know how to do such a hack.

I like the factory nav and touch screen and not having the phone in the way. I do use Waze for trips but sometimes XM Nav Traffic has alerted us to trouble even Waze didn't see, especially when it was 20+ miles off on the highway.

I use Google maps now, it's free with free updates. I like the fact that it also shows where the popos hide.

First thing I yanked out was that archaic factory nav, almost useless in 2020, cant stream music, can't update it. wooh it has bluetooth that makes you sound like you are in a tunnel.
get with the times, wireless headunits are out there and have been out gm is just now catching up in 2021.........
yes you can keep all your factory stuff with adapters and everything will work including RSE, bose, etc..

I had bought a factory nav head unit to upgrade my PPV, but when i found out about having to get the disks to update the maps i sold it. I use Google maps on my phone plugged into the AUX on the stock radio. Maybe i'll upgrade the had unit to an after market one later.

sometimes the phone is not very accurate or the phone loses signal...
also .. also on the hybird it has a neat animation of the wheels spinning and tells you if it's running on battery or engine or both
here is a factory "looking" headunit too bad they don't sell it anymore

Technology has evolved......... Google maps and Waxed is way more accurate and gives live updates aka speed traps, accidents and alternative route because of traffic.

Sorry the factory does not do that, therefore, obsolete.

Also, someone mentioned losing phone signal. You can lose GPS signal as well.
Far as losing phone signal, you can set Google maps to download your route. I'm sure waze can as well.
When I ubered, waze was my preference.

I've had a lot more problems with dropped GPS signal on vehicles in downtown's like Chicago or Boston than I ever have with dropped cellphone signals.

Personally, I've found the factory NAV useless. Had the same dash and NAV on both '07 Avalanche and current '09 Tahoe. It's positioned too low and the screen is hard to read. Never updated due to high cost of the updates. TomTom, Garmin and phone (and of course google maps) work for me.
