Trailer Charge Circuit and Dual battery

Hi all,

Curious about Trailer Charge Circuit and Dual battery's.

Does the trailer charge only operate when the engine's on?

I'm interested in adding a second battery under hood. Looks like a spot prefect for it.

I have the max trailering package. Does it include an upgraded alternator?

Was thinking of adding a second battery and an isolator circuit to run an inverter.

On the previous generation, the answer is no, it is always sending power back to the trailer if connected, whether or not the engine is running.

This conversation has jarred my memory somewhat. I think that the circuitry is such as to not power the line with the ignition off on your generation. I seem to remember talking about it some time ago on the GM-Trucks forum. Have a look over there.

Why not break out a test light or a voltmeter, connect to the 7-blade, and see what it does?

I might do that. I don't think it does but it would be nice if it did. I'm considering adding an extra isolated battery and rewiring in order to give my trailer some extra charge.
