can you change those w/o pulling the block?

Years ago the cam gear fell off in my LT1. Was def a low pt. Firing up the engine I built afterwards was awesome. Was pretty decent carnage. I had a machine shop put the cam bearings in, clean the block, lap the valves & seats, then replane the heads. I built all the rest. I def could have installed the cam in the engine bay. Just not sure about the bearings.

Unfortunately no. The motor needs to be pulled and disassembled. The cam rides on it. You also need a tool and need to make sure they're put in correctly. Supposedly they can be put in wrong. A machine shop can do it for you.

Sorry to hear that :( As ***** says... or is it Trump haha "Build Back Better." I'd love to give you a hand. One of the most fun projects I did was building that LT1 for my Z28. When done it could break the tires loose on interstate at 75mph.

I give you my secret weapon... Amazon Returns. Half my truck is from there. Just wish they sold a Gen III 6000 Vortec. I also scour lots of FB marketplace, and craigslist. Lastly, I buy TON of parts here from local savage yard. However, the 6.0 is very elusive :(

Yes, I’m looking for a 6.0 too.. I want one, and I think if I can’t find one I might have to buy a 427... [emoji2957][emoji631]

It's official, Tony, you're not alone. My injector hydro locked cylinder 8 and broke the rod so looks like we're both going to be building motors.

Not yet. I may try to patch it up with a new rod... But a bit discouraged right now. If was 2wd this would be a sinch. However getting oil pan off with IFS is a bear :/

Just pull the bolts that mount the front diff to the frame and let it droop. It’s just enough room to get the pan off, I’ve done it on my 02 Denali. Might have to pry down a bit on the diff while you wiggle the pan out but it’s not hard.

X2!! I had to drop the oil pan several times in less than a week trying to stop a leak from the screw that connects the oil cooler lines. I originally was thinking it was the oil pan gasket.

I keep forgetting to update the build thread! I was driving on the pkwy and my trans line popped off. Trans fluid was everywhere.View attachment 190357
Got it towed home. I thought the entire lower trans line needed to be replaced.View attachment 190358 View attachment 190359
Tried to do it myself, but I just couldn't get it to feed correctly, so off it went to the trans guy. Charged me $100. Well worth it. Guy told me I was lucky the Hoe didn't catch on fire! Atf is highly flammable. Gf said she hears some whistling while stepping on the gas only, but other then that, it's back up and running like a champ.
I installed a larger transmission cooler in thecopcar last spring. Road testing afterward, one of the joints I hadn’t properly tightened let go. What a bloody mess. Fortunately I had the tools with me to repair it and my wife did runner duty to bring more atf so I was able to drive to the car wash for a cleanup.

Just now? Really?

The one positive for you two is that trans fluid protects metal. I used to coat the undercarriage of my plow trucks with it. It cleans, lubes and protects.
My grandpa was a mechanic in a GM dealership for some time before opening his own shop. One of the detail tricks used to pretty up the used cars was to wipe them down with either atf o4 power steering fluid. I’ve seen the results, it does look fantastic for a short time.
