well i mean the direction. i kno the pointy part goes up. but i was driving w/o a thermo and it would stay cool till i got on the freeway. so i decicde to put on in. i put it in(no specific way) and when i drive it anywear it starts at the lowest and climbs fast past 260 then comes down and repeats. ive tried all thermos and same result.

well that is a possibility. cause were redoing the intake gasket today and replacing the radiator from a 1 core to 2. only cause the original has cracks in the plastic.

What heads did you put on?? 260 on the gauge is dangerous seeing as how that gauge is reading head temp on the drivers side head, that is usually the cooler of the two.

It really sounds like a Vortec bypass issue ... did you hook up all the coolant lines?? The one form the front of the intake to the pump is important on those ...
