General Motors is recalling 1.4 million 2007–2011 trucks and large SUVs for their Takata-supplied passenger-side airbags. The models are as follows, and they’ve been added to our list below: 2007–2011 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Avalanche, Tahoe, and Suburban; 2007–2011 GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Yukon XL; 2007–2011 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade EXT, and Escalade ESV; 2009–2011 Silverado 2500 and 3500; 2009–2011 Sierra 2500 and 3500. None of these vehicles had previously been included in these recalls. GM reports that there have been no airbag ruptures in approximately 44,000 crashes of the recalled vehicles.

I have tried by vin, my 2011 Yukon is not added to the database yet, but should be shortly.

If anyone here talks to their dealer or GM and gets any answers on what they are going to do, how soon they will have parts, etc - please post here

I am not going to let anyone sit in the passenger seat for now, which sucks. We always take my Yukon because it is the nicest and biggest car in our group of friends. There will be trips were we will be forces to take 2 vehicles now

perhaps they will do like Honda / Acura and give out loaners until the parts are available. I know of someone that has been in a rental CRV free of charge for 2 months, and looks like it will be the end of summer before her car will be fixed

Takata. Is that a foreign GM company?

Send these manufacturing jobs back home and we would not have this problem.

Look At the 4WD selector switch!

Better get your shit straight GM, or some electric company might overtAKE you.

Oh, they already have.

Take it back!

Ok, I talked to GM today. They are completely denying that there is an issue. The NHTSA disagrees and forced them to do a "preliminary recall". They have no more information at this time. They do not have parts, the do not have any time table. Complete denial

here's the basics from GM themselves :

GM has issued a preliminary recall for some GM vehicles based on a May 2016 defect information report from Takata. It covers the front passenger airbag inflators on 2007-2011 full-size pickups and full-size SUVs in regions of the U.S. with moderate to high heat and humidity.

GM believes that the vehicles we manufactured with these inflators do not contain a present defect which poses an unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety at this time. We believe these vehicles are safe to drive today.

Chevrolet
2009-2011 Silverado 2500/3500 HD
2007-2011 Silverado 1500, Avalanche, Tahoe, Suburban

GMC
2009-2011 Sierra 2500/3500 HD
2007-2011 Sierra 1500, Yukon, Yukon XL

Cadillac
2007-2011 Escalade, Escalade EXT, Escalade ESV

NHTSA has identified three zones within the U.S., designated A, B and C as shown below. Vehicles in areas of the country with higher heat and humidity are included in this preliminary recall. First, find the zone on the map below where your vehicle is registered (or may have been registered in the past):

GMTakataMap-Zones.jpg

Zone A:

  • 2009-2011 Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500 HD
  • 2009-2011 GMC Sierra 2500/3500 HD
  • 2007-2011 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Avalanche, Tahoe, Suburban
  • 2007-2011 GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon, Yukon XL
  • 2007-2011 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade EXT, Escalade ESV
Zone B:

  • 2007-2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Avalanche, Tahoe, Suburban
  • 2007-2008 GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon, Yukon XL
  • 2007-2008 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade EXT, Escalade ESV
Zone C:

  • None at this time

GM believes that the vehicles subject to these preliminary recalls do not pose an unreasonable safety risk at this time and are safe to drive.

The Takata passenger-side airbag inflators used in these GM trucks and SUVs are a variant engineered specifically for these GM vehicles, and the inflators are packaged in the instrument panel in a way that minimizes exposure to moisture from the climate control system. Importantly, these vehicles have features and attributes that minimize the maximum temperature to which the inflator will be exposed.

As of May 2016, GM has had zero reports of inflators rupturing in these vehicles since the start of production. This covers an estimated 44,000 deployments.

This has been going on with millions of vehicles from many manufacturers and the list keeps getting longer. Takata has stated it will take years to replace all these airbags. GM is in line and is doing the same as other manufacturers as far as replacements. Others have also started by recalling vehicles in the high-risk areas first and then adding more as time goes on. It's Takata that needs to be jammed up. They knew about problems years and years ago and kept building the same defective crap.
