Tailgate Won't Open

So I went out to my car today morning to find that when I pressed the open button on my tailgate, it opened 1/2 way and then seemingly detected something and closed. I pulled the truck out and checked again, and it seemed the a strut is broken. When I tried to manually pull it up, it was heavy because there was no strut assistance. Has anyone had this issue? My car only has 5k miles.

Does the Yukon Denali Hybrid have a power liftgate?? I thought they pulled that option from all the hybrids in the name of weight saving..maybe the Denali is different. I know that my '09 Tahoe doesnt have a power lift.

Anyway, sounds like a warranty issue to me. I'd just drop it off at the dealership.
