Just a quick question - I picked up a used cluster at a salvage yard that I am pretty sure will fit my 04 Suburban (original is having usual gremlin issues), is there any danger in trying to just swap it out or am I in for a whole host of BCM or other control related issues hooking up an unknown cluster? TIA

no, the mileage will be off is all, that can be corrected by a speedometer shop.
Otherwise by law to you are supposed to put a sticker in the glove box or door jamb? one of the two indicating the cluster was changed and the correct mileage
(presuming it was going to be sold). original mileage/cluster mileage

Should be fine to hook up w/o any issues.

I once bought the cluster that I intended to run on my 99 Silverado temporarily until I found one with the transmission temp guage. It was one of these Jose or Shanaynay FB Marketplace backyard part-out special deals from a 2000 Tahoe. I asked the guy what was the odometer and he said something like, "oh, it had 150-something miles." [they all they say that]...so when I got home and plugged into my truck, the thing had like 468k! LOL!

I still have that somewhere in my garage...

What specific issues?

Depending on the issues with your original cluster, the circuit board may need new stepper motors for the gauges and/or a good cleaning of the circuit board. Google "silver migration chevy cluster" and see what you find.

Also see this thread, but know that there are others if you use the forum's SEARCH function on the home page.

Thanks a lot guys - I'll give it a try this weekend and see what kind of condition it is in. The biggest issue with the current one is the stepper motors. If I can run this while I repair the original one that will be ideal.

See the link below for a PDF that has the cluster pinout. When you repair yours I would recommend powering up the backlighting circuit to make sure all the bulbs work; it's a perfect time to replace them. The stepper motor kits can be found on Amazon, eBay, etc.

Before pulling off the gauge needles, stick a small piece of painters tape on the gauge face. Then gently rotate the needle to the minimal -- counter clockwise -- position (you should feel the "stop"), and mark that point on the tape. When you are ready to put the needles back on the new stepper motors, simply gently rotate the new motors to the minimal position and reinstall the needles.
