Subwoofer orientation in box behind third row...

I've found pics of boxes with subs on top, bottom and rear like these... but,

What are the advantages and disadvantages of each? Would there be a disadvantage to mounting the subs on the front side of the box a short distance from the back of the third row seats?

bass is really non directional, meaning like you want the tweeters aimed towards you, or off the windshield depending on install. But subs are non directional. But, installed incorrectly you can have cancellation.
Either way, up, towards the rear tailgate, down, or thru the seat is fine. Best is to play with it in everyway to see which suits you, and the vehicle best.

Thanks for the info , that makes sense. My preference is to have them facing forward near the back side of the seat. All of my previous vehicles have been single cab trucks and the subs always faced forward... but many years ago, when we had a system in my wife's car, I tested facing forward, up and backwards... backwards sounded best. Our SUV's don't have trunks (well, not enclosed anyway) so I don't think the same would apply... but I also don't want to make the mistake of having a custom box built and it not sound as good as it should or could.

I don't know what the side panels are like in the 07+ but my preference would be that if they are usable to put a sub in each side panel so you get the bass and the utility of the back. Space doesn't matter to everyone I know but it could never hurt. Then again if they aren't usable I would play around with them to see how they sound best as suggested but my preference would be the same as yours to have them facing inward.

IMHO i think the direction of fire for the subs makes a HUGE difference.

Face them to the rear, I think the reverb of an SUV is very important and that is what makes subs sound quality and loud in an SUV

just my two cents but try it out for yourself...if you have a cheap box, take out the 3rd row....face them to the rear and then face them forward and then face up. I think it makes a definite difference!

The LOUDEST setup would be to have the Subwoofers firing up and have the port going out the back towards the hatch, but there isn't enough space for that.

Get rid of the third row, you'll love it!

i get pretty good bass being that mine are kind of off-set. a lil rattles the shit out of my liftgate but can't hear it on the inside only the outside..also how do i take the trim off the liftgate so i can get some dyno mate bacc there???

I have all 4 doors and lift gate dynamatted. Absolutely no rattling on the outside except for the corners of the trunk where the black plastic pieces are right above the tail lights. I took the inside of them off from the inside and I put dynamat there, but it still rattles. I will have them taken off and dynamatted from the outside when I get them painted to match my truck.

No no no.

The dynamat goes under the plastic or else it would defeat the purpose of dynamatting lol.

What I ment was in the upper corners of the hatch is what still rattles. I think there is something behind there that cant be touched with dynamat.

oh got you!!!! quicc question off topic though.. how do you remove the panle for the left rear tweeter the rod from the auto liftgate keeps me from taking it off and i swapped out the right rear but couldnt get to the left one..
