I would go with either if need be but I think the 8.1 option stopped in 2001 and went to 6.0, right?

The 8.1 was offered through the 2005 model year. They are, however, the ultimate unicorns. Ones with low miles (100k) in good shape sell for $10k-$15k.

There's a pretty good Suburban/Yukon 2500 Facebook group, and members will often list their rigs on there first. Usually when someone posts up looking for one, several guys usually respond with offers to sell.

Thanks for the replies. Couple showed are RWD and not 4wd. I found this locally and may go look at it but I think it is lifted. The seller is checking and getting back to me.

I called the lot and they said it is still there and the price on the w/s says $6990 but their most recent ad says $4990. It looks like it is lifted a bit but they say no, it is stock height. I printed out the CL ad with the $4990 price and am going to see it tonight. Anything special about the 6.0 engine I should be aware of and look for?

That bad boy is giving me a "*****". That is a street cleaner for the riots in Portland and Chicago. I bet it is a ***** to parallel park that thing.

Have you looked for GMT900 trucks too, or are you partial to just the 800s? I just bought (overpaid...) the only 900 2500 I could find in my area, because I wanted the interior of the 900 but I also wanted it to last longer than 1500s, and the 6.0/4L80E seems to be the ticket for that. $8k for an '07 with 225k miles. Decent shape but needs some love here and there.

That's a nice one. I hope you leave those fender racing stripes on lol! I'm sure you noticed, but that's the wrong 3rd row seat in it. From an 01-02. Maybe a bargaining point.

I did look at the 800 trucks too. A 2500 4wd and if I did get one it would be a Duramax diesel. I had one before. Loved that pulling power of that truck. I would not go with the 6.0 or 8.1 engine without the Alison transmission. As a matter of fact I think the 8.1 always had the Allison trans. I like the idea of the 2500 Suburban though. It may all come back to just getting a truck to pull the trailer I am planning on. The search continues.

I did notice the seat and the stripes. I have to see those stripes to see if they would stay. As I said, the price went from $6990 to $4990 so I really am going to look this rig over. Again, does anyone know of anything I need to look for with the 6.0 engines? They said a Carfax is available and I will look it over real good. Who knows, like @stubbs said, it may end up being a Duramax truck I get.

I saw an '07 and an '08 4x4 2500s for sale in the Fort Lauderdale area on CL last night. Both black. 2007s have to have 4.10s to tow worth a damn, they got the 6-speed in 2008.

GMT900's also come with the 10.5 full floating rear axle. GMT800 6.0's have the 9.5SF, 8.1s have the 10.5FF. I wanted a GMT800 8.1 with 4.10s, ended up "settling" for a GMT900 Yukon after a year of nationwide searching.... also preferred the Suburban over Yukon.

I went and looked at that Suburban 2500 last night after work. Kind of rough interior and lots of wet under the engine and trans area. A/C was warm, coolant nasty and p/s fluid looked black. Brake fluid was dark brown. Looks like to buy it means lots of work in the very beginning. I told them that since they came off the $6990 advertised on the w/s and went down to $4990 in the ad, that if they came down to $3990 and honor their CL ad claim that if a customer brought in a copy of the CL ad they woud take another $250 off the price, I would buy it. It drove fine and engine was smooth and quiet. Trans shift was fine.

Thanks. I do see rust build up on that frame though. It is not rusted thru but is surface rust. I expected to see that. It is nice but not what I want to pay and definitely don't want to go to Detroit area to get it. Maybe he can get that price in that area though.

I saw this one last night and drove it. https://eugene.craigslist.org/ctd/d/eugene-2004-chevrolet-chevy-suburban/7161818462.html

I made them an offer of $3990 plus the $250 off mentioning the CL ad and walked away. They called a little bit ago and want to talk to me after work today. I know I will likely have to go thru this one and maybe do an engine and trans but I can do lots of that labor myself and save some money. We shall see.

My SoCal truck has more rust than that.

That truck looks lifted some to me but... Whatever you get I hope it pushes your buttons.

I may jump on the one tonight or hold out and look farther out. I do have a friend that will go with me to drive back with.

The one I am going to look at tonight is a 2004 as well and is listed by them at $25k less money plus whatever I get them talked down to. I can do a lot to this older rig with an extra $25k.
