Hey guys, I recently...shamelessly...put a new motor in my '**, and due to budget, time, etc I went with stock. Ok, yeah I know I could have put something bigger/better for same or less money but I didnt, so I'm stuck for now.

Question is....what is the best things to do for performance? I currently have an air raid intake (not cold air), superchips, flowmaster cat back.

I'm running 285s and 4.56 gears.

My uneducated guess is some headers first....am I on the right track or should I think block modifications first?

im gonna drop in some shorty headers in my 2dr. you should get a mild cam and a tune or just convert to carb and run large cam

At this point a good exhaust system and a tune would do wonders.

I hear the headers work wonders on these motors. Maybe add a throttle body spacer?

I wouldnt worry about the motor, you have a decent reliable motor and a great foundation to work off of.
I'd go for some long tube headers and have a mid pipe made to fit with some high flow cats.
Definately a tune, our trucks love tunes.

One thing a lot of people over look is a stall. After I put a stall in my truck, it drove like a totally different ride. Surprises a lot of people :)

unknown at this time.
try headers first and have black bear performance retune it. get rid of the super chip junk.

A good set of heads. I was looking into getting some Vortec heads. Now I'm looking at some aluminum trick flows with 72cc chambers to lower my compression ratio.

Still, from what I hear, the 5.7 TBI heads are terrible. I would go with vortec heads (you need the GM Performance TBI to vortec intake manifold), a good air intake, some shorty headers and an exhaust system. Should make it drive a little better.

You don't "need" the TBI Vortec intake, you can get a carb'd intake and adapter. that TBI Vortec intake isn't all that special. Vortec heads on these earlier OBS engines need somethings to be done before you just drop them on. I had a post here on the cooling system differences, if you search and find it it's worth the read. TBI Heads are nice but they will be a stepping stone. You'll want more power, more then a set of Vortec heads will allow.

Yeah, missed the year. When I hear 5.7, I think TBI. Most 96+ guys usually put "vortec". Oh well, most of my post is not irrelevant, and I have no idea what you 96+ guys do. Oh well.
