Sound deadening/ general system build

Kicker technical support recommended that I get a headphone jack to RCA converter and try to run my cell phone through the subwoofers I'm able to get sound through the subwoofers this way but not able to get them out of the head unit it's either the cheap head unit I bought this overpriced converter I brought or some other problem that I can't even imagine
