last time I blew a transmission, the transmission shop I had warranty with blamed the problem on the transfer case, mine was 4wd but I had the same problem would roll forward but not backward, I guess there is some part in the transfer case that can bind up, you might want to disconnect the transfer case and see if it still spins either way.

I’m wondering if it’s the TC. It kinda makes sense- how I can roll it forward but not backward even if the trans is in neutral, and how I can put it in any gear and it doesn’t move under power. It kind of felt like some gears locked up or broke when it happened. Also, I realized the TC uses ATF fluid and I changed it when the trans was installed so the fluid on the road doesn’t necessarily point to the trans. Might get lucky and the trans is ok, IDK. Gonna see about pulling the TC today but it’s like 38 here. Thinking of pulling it then looking at the trans output shaft while it’s in gear. Not sure if the Tech 2 can diagnose the trans?

I know. Anyway I just put it on jack stands and had a look. It’s the trans. There’s a ticking coming from the bell housing and the fluid came out of the tail shaft. I can’t see much through the inspection plate. The Tech2 shows no tail shaft speed when I put it in any gear. It might be the TC locked up and blew the trans. It will just all have to come apart and that might wait until the spring. It’s a bad time of the year in the NW to pull a trans in my driveway and Im old. I already work outside most of the time and that’s hard enough on me. I’m so depressed. I just hope the Silvy holds up for the next 3 months. I don’t want to have to buy another rig to get me by. Shit.

Edit- I just realized you were saying it only moves fwd, but not under power. It very well could be the converter or output shaft. Dropping the pan may be the easiest and see if there is any debris in there.

Does your warranty cover the r&r of the trans?..let a shop do the work and bill it to performabuilt if have 1 you trust. I was really hopeful this trans would hold since it's well built but the true weakness of the 60e is just it's not beefy enough but maybe it lost pressure somewhere and caused 2 gears to engage. I think my pump went on mine since my converter is still completely full but spins freely. .

I'm currently on a road trip in mine and the 80e hasnt missed a beat (knock on wood)..sending good vibes to the car gods so you get it worked out..

No there’s no trans warranty that I know of that covers the R&R of it. Unless maybe you pay them to R&R it in the first place. As far as dropping the pan, that will happen when I decide to pull the trans.

Hmmm that's an idea. But anyway I bought some time, or should I say a cheap Tahoe. It's a black 05 Z71 with 250k. I was looking for something with a little less mileage but this one looked like it was well taken care of which IMO is more important that the actual mileage. It's had the steering rebuilt, has some decent 22's although they have Monster logos on them, a new DD Kenwood with backup cam and a 10" Kicker sub and amp. The carpet is terrible but that's to be expected. It does have a couple problems which include no TPMS sensors installed (why he didn't put them on when he did the wheels is beyond me) and a problem with the Passenger Presence System for the airbags. But compared to what I was looking at for the price ($3500)it was the best I could find, plus I was out of time to look for one. I'm starting at a new jobsite tomorrow and didn't want to drive the Silvy there plus it is not a good truck to drive in the Winter. I kept hitting small holes in the roads around here and was worried about a blowout or bent wheel. I was going to look last weekend but unfortunately I had to put my buddy Kujo, my 12 year old Alaskan Husky, to sleep last Saturday. His cancer had spread again into unoperable nodules on his shoulder which were attacking his muscles and nerves, resulting in more and more pain to the point the narcotics I was giving him were beginning to fail us so I had to make the heart breaking decision to say goodbye. So the year ended rough for me but I will be OK. Thanks to all you guys for being here and supporting me.

Sounds like a good score on the Z71. Hope it keeps you running solid through the winter until the Beast can get serviced.

Very sorry to hear about your dog. A tough blow, but know he is feeling no pain now. I feel for you man.

Be safe out there.
