I recently got my very first RA shipping mess up. Ordered a valve cover gasket and 5 lug front brake rotors for a 2007 Mazda 3. Got the correct valve cover gasket and 8 lug rotors for....who knows. I immediately contacted at the RA site and they emailed me a return label and shipped the correct rotors. Strangely, no apology but I did not expect a website to apologize anyway.

Like @Fless said, take pics, I did, and do a return for "wrong parts" and type in the explanation.

Someone at Mazda cheaped out, not giving you 8-lug hubs. ;)

They once shipped me someone else's part instead of mine, the packing label inside the box even had the other person's name and address on it. I contacted them and they authorized a return. I returned it and then they denied the refund because the part I returned wasn't the part that I ordered.

Did you call them again?
I'd certainly use a chargeback if they didn't take care of it.

I'd be pissed, but I wouldn't take it personally..
People screw up now and then, especially a big company with lots of people spread out across 3 warehouses etc..

I personally stopped using Rockauto for reasons that I and posters on this thread have stated and not getting response from this business.

It is at times the prices are lower but with shipping on a project coming from different warehouses and the don't care attitude of business it's not worth the problems and setbacks with my repairs. Just my view.

I've used Rock Auto for years, and I have not had a single issue with them. Maybe, I've been lucky, but probably not. I believe that they are a GOOD company, but like all companies, they employ humans (at least so far), and humans make mistakes.

rock auto makes it pretty clear they are able to provide lower prices by reducing human interaction
figuring out how to return or exchange something is really not that difficult. even if it was the wrong item, not as described or arrived damaged.
Now if you screw up and choose the wrong method then when it comes back to bite you, well.......

I learned a long time ago with Rock Auto that they make more mistakes when handling large orders. The solution was to make smaller orders. The problems for me were usually missing items.

Thanks to Ron @OR VietVet , we saved $40 the other day off of our latest order.

Some might consider just eating a screw up because we save so much money using RA compared with going to O'Reilly's or the dealer or hunting down all the parts on various websites or Ebay. A $50 problem is not worth my time or energy; to each his own.

I like them because of the website..
Quick to find parts, and a fair amount of pictures/specs.

I've had good luck, and even sent things back I didn't need (probably had to pay shipping).
Once returned a part I said was wrong, but later I discovered I was searching the wrong vehicle! Oops, sorry RA!

Definately thanks to @OR VietVet, everytime I remember to look for a coupon, he's got several up!

Here's all the times I ordered (Thanks TYF!) with no issue..

You bring up an interesting point.

Partly because of merchants' own advertising, way too many people think they're entitled to Walmart pricing with Neiman Marcus service and ***-kissing.

Once you do a certain amount of buying from them, they will send discount codes to you as well. I have no idea what that limit is. They used to send discount codes to all customers via emails but now the codes are limited to high $ buyers.

I have used RockAuto many times, I was doing major truck projects for 6 years, many times had 3 projects going at once. Rockauto was near perfect. Had a couple issues on orders but they corrected them and I never felt like they treated me badly. I had connections with all the local warehouse distributors and could buy at near cost due to relationships established calling on them for 30 years but I found the ability to order on line and have parts delivered was much more productive for my time than taking time to drive to local warehouses to pick up the parts at similar prices. Funny part was that sometimes I ordered the parts from Rockauto and they shipped to me from the local warehouses I knew. Rock is not one big place, they deal with local warehouses all over the country so shipping issues may happen with different local sites.

Where? I looked around on his user page just now and didn't run across a post regarding that.

I just did a $375 order yesterday, so it won't be a help now, but it'll be good to know for the future.
