On my 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe, the rear driver's side corner/fender has a dent -- just over 4 inches across in width (see pictures at bottom of post).

A shop in my area (Houston) gave me a ballpark estimate of $400. I didn't tell them that I recently purchased a living social deal for a $200 voucher on body work--bought it for $50. So the net cost would actually be about $250. Does this seem reasonable?

He mentioned that the rear bumper and rear light assembly would need to be disassembled to properly repair, finish, and paint. Since those components are really not too difficult to remove (I've disassembled both myself), I feel like he may be trying to make it sound like it will be a more work than it really is.

Is this something a DIYer like myself should attempt or am I asking for trouble?

Appreciate your help guys.

Yeah that's a good price. I paid 900 to fix a big ass dent in that area and paint both quarters on either side.

That's not too bad really for prep, prime and paint to have it look new again.

are they going to back tape from the body line down? If so, not a bad price. Yes, the bumper should be removed to get the paint and clear even around that edge behind the bumper. Tail light is a no brainer.

For a true repair,
R&I: LT Quarter Glass, LT Tail Lamp, LT Wheel Flare, Rear Bumper, LT Vent Cap.
Repl: LS/LT Emblem (if equipped)
Blend: Fuel Door,
Rpr: Dent on LT Quarter (approx 3hrs)
Refn: Partial Basecoat & Clear entire panel.

With rates in DFW as $45/$45/$35 I have come up with $834.96. I would be a little concerned for the quality of the repair at $400
