I plan on installing a new muffler soon, Ill be deleting my spare tire and was thinking of installing the new muffler where the spare tire was.
What kind of issues would I face if I where to do this? Would it sound any different by installing it in the rear as apposed to the OEM location?
Id be getting rid of the resonator as well.

interested in what you all have to say, Ive learned so much by joining this forum. Thank you!

as far as placement goes im not sure. possibly losing some of it volume due to distance before it get to the muffler. deleting the resonator is definitely something you will want to watch a bunch of YouTube videos on. chose the wrong muffler and you might not like your exhaust while cruising. any particular reason why you would mount the muffler in a different position other than the spot its supposed to sit?

Removing the resonator on a nnbs makes almost zero (0) impact in terms of drone. I've done it and am here to tell you it's a non-issue---and I'm very sensitive to drone, having screwed up other vehicles in the past with exhaust experiments.

Isn't there a particular model of these SUVs that has a muffler (as a second one?) back there?

I've always understood that the further upstream you have the muffler, the deeper the tone exiting the pipe. As far as what you will hear inside, I don't think it'll make much of a difference other than just what the aftermarket muffler sounds like. It probably won't be much of a difference at the exit, either.

The Hybrid has a 2nd muffler mounted where the spare tire is supposed to be... they removed the spare tire and hoist assembly in an effort to lighten the truck for better MPG.

I thought it was the hybrid after I posted.

I'm curious of the outcome if Brendon goes through with it.

Thanks for the replies guys, I had no idea anyone even answered the thread because I got no notifications. On a whim I just decided to check. My apologies gents.

Just wondering what would happen to the tone being further away.....I have no real reason as to why I want to relocate it except for the fact Im deleting my spare and figured it would look naked without something there in its place. Im replacing my muffler soon and the thought crossed my mind.
Would be horrible to replace my muffler and have the end result the same as stock. Maybe Ill just put some horns under there instead?..

Some of the 2500 Suburbans have an auxiliary fuel tank back there above the spare tire if my memory serves me... although the frames are different... James @swathdiver could tell you more.

The GMT900 2500s have an 11.5 gallon tank above the spare with its own fuel pump. They run a 26 gallon main tank, not 31.5 like the 1500 Suburbans. On our 1500s, it does not fit without modification and probable loss of the spare. I'd love to add that to my 31.5 for 42 gallons like the GMT400s. There's not as much space between our frame and body as the 2500s. Someday when I have more time and money I will investigate it further unless someone does it before I do, hopefully!

2018 Tahoe premier. I installed a carven muffler and removed the resonator. I kept the original cheome Chevy tip. We get no drone noise inside cab. It belong to wife, she loves it. Stays peaceful until you step on throttle. I do recommend to remove resonator.
