We bought a new Infiniti QX 50 in 2016….. Dealer had Dunlop 18” tires on it. The tires performed well… good grip, sort of quiet, smooth ride.Bizarre!!
The Docket uses the “dealer benchmark” as their tire guide because the morons writing this proposed law, don’t know CRAP .Went a whopping 4min 18sec into the video.
Fuel-efficient tires are almost NEVER the tires with the best wet-weather or snow or ice grip, but clearly Kalephonyuh never has bad weather, is that it?
I'd be LESS opposed if they were trying to mandate tires that performed better in inclement weather, but still opposed on principle.
Legally mandating me to only ever buy MICHELIN DEFENDER LTX M/S2s for my Tahoe would be good news for the person who's gonna buy my Tahoe -
If I can't choose what tires I want for my Tahoe, skreu it, I'll get a skateboard on a stick.
Many of you would do well to be reminded of what she has to say at round 9min 8sec
"The ASS-UMPTION is that the tire originally installed on your vehicle represents some kind of ideal benchmark ..."
Too bad I can't have any effect on Kalephonyuh Energy Commision Docket 26-TIRE-01, til I feel its effects in NYC ...
they won't there is a tire shop on dam every corner in this state, they would devastate a entire MULTI BILLION DOLLAR industry. The Docket uses the “dealer benchmark” as their tire guide because the morons writing this proposed law, don’t know CRAP .
I bet the dealers are financing this proposal, and ‘educated’ them. Uh, yea….
If Kalifornia passes this law, I cam guaranty, the “tire - on - vehicle” will be added to their Smog Check, and deny owner’s registration. Ahhhh. all about the environment……. Ha...
My dad had some michelins on an old '81 honda accord.. They lasted forever.. in a way..Dealer had Dunlop 18” tires on it. The tires performed well… good grip, sort of quiet, smooth ride.
Why was the car performing so well? The tires had a VERY soft tread, very soft sidewall.
The tire tread wore out in 19,000 miles.
that law has been in place since the 80's and all it is, is a statement that there may be materials contained in the product that causes cancer in lab rats that ate 15,000 cases of them.My dad had some michelins on an old '81 honda accord.. They lasted forever.. in a way..
They got so hard over the years, they felt like plastic and not rubber.
20k miles is about what I got out of some bridgestones too.. But like you said, the tires performed well..
I ordered some light housings from RA yesterday, couldn't order Phillips bulbs because...
"Part # 4114LL cannot ship to California because we do not have documentation required by Proposition 65 from PHILIPS.
Please choose a different brand. Click here to find an alternate."
The alternate being Genuine GM (Goverment Mandate) at over double the price..
(Though still cheap enough, I should have ordered them. I'll probably end up with Sylvania's (yuck) at the parts store.. )
Gotta be a racket.. you can't sell it in CA unless you get it prop65 approved.. And the documentation required also requires a processing fee..
As well as using a california approved printer to print prop 65 on your packaging with prop 65 approved ink on prop 65 approved cardboard..
Prop 65, wasting millions of gallons of ink!
If the law ( actually written in 2003 )……. Small tire shops will be MANDATED to install ONLY law-required tires that were OEM on the vehicle….. If your OLDER vehicle had discontinued tires, you won’t be able to register it.they won't there is a tire shop on dam every corner in this state, they would devastate a entire MULTI BILLION DOLLAR industry.
Seems more likely they would if anything force tire efficiency standards on new vehicles only
Which seems to apply to everything!that law has been in place since the 80's and all it is, is a statement that there may be materials contained in the product that causes cancer in lab rats that ate 15,000 cases of them.
I figure that's why they won't allow used catalytic converter sales.California wants to scrap older cars.

Start saving your tire money……. cost could be 50% higher for the mandated tires.
California is ignoring a little detail……. EVs…...Don't forget- these are the same geniuses that tried to outlaw black vehicles to combat global warming.
