My wife and I currently drive an 08 Acura TL. We have outgrown this and I have always liked the Tahoes/Yukons. We dont want a huge car payment, or to have payments for a substantial amount of time. We currently pay around $375 a month.

My wife isn't exactly the most comfortable with the Yukon Xl's or suburbans, but we are open to all ideas/recommendations. Also open to all years.

I'm looking for ideas of things to look for when test driving or inspecting? Any tips, pointers? I've read the threads on here and received some decent information, just looking to make a wise decision.

We found 2 denali's that we are looking at now. Also some tahoes. Trying to keep our options open.

04 Denali

06 Denali

Thoughts? Price too high?

The only downside to this is we owe about 2.5k more on car then what it's worth as we first started out with a very high interest rate on this loan.

Looking for all thoughts, recommendations, ideas.

Look at the top of this section, it has a what to look for thread. We have a 04 yukon xl and a 05 TL. I will definitely admit those TLs have a tiny back seat lol. We don't even bother putting the car seats in it.

Good luck with your purchase!

The 06 is high, I wouldn't pay 15k unless it had like 60-80k miles... at 100k+ I wouldn't spend more than 10k on any of them

Thanks for the information. I have read that thread earlier. Great information in it. I've also added 2 more I have found.

2004 Tahoe

We just need something with third row seating.

Thinking of possibly pulling the trigger on the Denali for 15k, unless I should wait and find a better deal? Most of the ones I have found are sold already.

Any tips to find good deals on these vehicles? Either overpriced, or high miles it seems.

Wife wants to look further into getting that 06 denali for 14995. I was quoted a price out the door of $15000, which includes us trading in our current car, with 3k down. We are currently at neg equity and that would balance us out.

If approved payments are around 270 a month. I was told by dealer it Blue Books for 17,800 but I couldn't get KBB to have that number show up.

Im trying to hold off and see if something better pops up, for less money.

If your comfortable with it, then go for it. As long as your happy with the deal you get. How far under are you on your current car?

Your saying after trade in, and 3k down that gets you to 15k? Dear god no lol

LOL no, sorry I stated that wrong.

We owe just under 13k on our car. Its worth about 10 to 10,500, so the 3k were putting down basically wipes out our negative equity and puts us "EVEN" for lack of a better term.

So the sticker price on a car would be the price we pay, the extra 3k would no longer be added to the price.

So its listed for 14995. the price for us out the door is 15,000 with tax, title, etc.

I am still looking around though. Would it be better to look into the 07+'s.

Been looking at escalade's more as of lately.

Found this deal on an 2004

http://www.capitalmotorcompany.com/2004-Cadillac-Escalade-ESV-8-Passenger-Luxury-SUV-wDVD-Entertainment-Navigation-Eau-Claire-Wisconsin-54703/5499952

Although I would prefer the 05+ as they already come with the elec fan and such. Couple of other added options as well.

Any recommendations on a good year? Stick with Tahoes? Escalades? Yukons?

Im open to options and ideas. I've owned all foreign cars up to this point. So this is my first large american car/SUV

It depends on whether you want the regular sized body style or strech versions. With the third row up in the regular body style, storage is minimal. Do you want the 5.3 or 6.0/6.2. Nav/entertainment or no?

The 5.3 would be nice for gas mileage is all I can see. What about repair costs? Or availability in junk yard compared to 6.0 and 6.2? The extra power for towing Is nice and I like the deeper exhaust tone it gives

Nav is nice because it has the back up camera built in for the wife. Well on the newer models. We do have a nice gps unit and I have a nice aftermarket screen with nav so it's not a huge deal breaker to me either way. It's cool to have.

Did player would be nice for the kids on long trips or car rides.

I like the long versions for the added storage, my wife not so much. She nervous about driving something so big. Hence I said back up cam would be nice. Sh could get use to it although.

Basically just looking for a solid vehicle with lower miles. Third row and leather is a must. Would prefer captains chairs in middle. DVD player a nice plus.

I like denalis for all the convenience options really. Newer style with power lift gate and power folding seats in back are nice.

From hearing that you should look for a NNBS Suburban LTZ - Denali XL or Escalade ESV (2007 and up)

For exhaust tone you could get a muffler welded to get the 6.2 sound if you get a Suburban.

All of those should have backup cam - dvd - many used have captains chairs - some come with dvd so look around. I'd look for cheapest with lowest mileage.

Look for rust on the undercarriage - drive with windows down no radio for part of test drive(for noises) - open hood while running - check body lines for gaps - moisture in carpet - tires for life

Ask for a service record if available too

Awesome information thanks.

While I love the new per denalis and escalades, they still seem to catch a premium. Prices are a bit high.

That is why I was looking at older styles. I heard pac made an adapter for stock navigation that turned it into a backup camera screen also? Although it was pricey.

I was looking at 05 and up as that's when they started having the e fans stock, at least on the escalades.

Oh well than look for a Suburban LTZ - you can look for all just take time and widen your search area maybe
