I'm installing an aftermarket headunit and while burrowing around in the vehicle trying to understand wiring, etc I came across a few things that I was hoping this forum could help me with. They don't have anything to do with my install, these are just curiosities...

First - in the back rear interior quarterpanel trim, there is a small plastic grille toward the front of the vehicle and a large plastic grille toward the back with the cigarette lighter port (pic 1 below):
BAx5NtvB9AvHyOEUaAdaG4tIb2nwHJIBCqcaHHAluQ3lySRmCwTVHHcf8z9VTwCAa24f55y_LGhRSw_EyaQuO3o0UJIFxi0qKHWP2zcZLZZ0P9rLGs8xvTdQ_t0yumoYO1SA85I3sEslsokRZ0gQgQ9njp8c88T_eO3k5xRK561TRfWkLVkKzhEC2AY7F7YfRw2D-qyLybWWIhpZQmIndChSh_VlGhdvEHhEHE87tX2tpXj3m9BnwoxIq6SId3A4aonfQxyKNa2SeP7URHfICdazT76GJXINjqNxVyZVDNNTyPN7C0-85W1LVYL52YVuS4BOrAz3rEqQGax61QgOuQrdUoR08ECAVWPbhwODq23p8J3Cq4FopEE6eY_CnHUVXAqPMNcGtaF8ryWGkQ_MTLaVff13JWt8Cb7jSQdPtMfhesi6PhD-eG3bMs3SKTwXkqCvhA6uLNKR-eWtGPAYYewZIFal_HrWy4VHxK0ZM3U5j9SzdIr1OBw8dT_Xfv7Lf_Ok1-rVJ-6sQNE5CzSrfOQ49B0luXeXBrls6L3UHXxfaH_5sq-R518J8x8orBnkapBJbJcK43MiTw-PZjoOiq9nlqm_u52EhS4sUFGTraZYBj3kvpodqsFeJYUDwFePoSS2E2Ia6kIF1WpVEy3nvmXAEtit7uKVqRo2bzLcxwPd6tHnpysKqgdf0jH2-Go=w1205-h904-no

If you look in the small plastic grille, you'll see this (best pic I could get, "pic 2" below):

If you take the cover (?) thing off on the top side (pic 3) and look inside, there's a wire that runs in there from that (pic 4) back toward the back of the vehicle where it looks like it connects to something else (pic 5):

Any ideas as to what that is? Also what is the rear (larger) grille for?

Secondly, what are these holes for to the left (driver side) of the console? Looks like it's for a microphone or something like that but obviously the mic is up in the headliner...

Like I said these are just curiosities but I can't seem to figure them out via google or looking at the parts fiche...

I may have a couple of headunit install questions that I'm working through but that will come later when/if I realize I need it...

The passenger rear panel has the rear hvac unit behind it, the little sensor poking into the air duct is a thermistor to determine the air temp.
the small holes in the drivers side of the center console is nothing just air holes

Interesting - I had no idea there was a separate unit back there. TIL :)

Such a strange thing to put random air holes though? I wouldn't think that little bit makes any difference with regard to letting that area breathe? But maybe it does...

Anyway - appreciate the help!

The holes in the side of the center console are for a microphone of sorts. On some of the trucks (Escalade, Denali) they have an ambient/road noise sensor for noise canceling. It is called ANC (active noise canceling).

The "microphone" in the headliner is actually an air temperature sensor with a little fan in it. When you set the temperature on the dash it senses the air temperature in cabin and controls the temperature automatically.

There is also another air sensor in the rear headliner.

The ANC mic's on my Denali are in the headliner and look just like the ambient air sensor or very similar anyway.

My apologies... guess I was meaning to say VNC (vehicle noise control) mic.

https://www.tahoeyukonforum.com/thr...-luxury-amp-upgrade.92858/page-2#post-1115471
I think he's blowing a little smoke there, the mic he is referring to is found in the roof console, not in the center console, and there is no reference to "vnc" except merceds benz
the uqa amp is the same as uq7 and those are referenced in nbs vehicles and pickups, the new system in the k2xx is now referenced as audiopilot which came about around 2014
even the higher end Caddilac coupes use the roof mic's and a calculation of drivetrain noise that data comes from the ecm that system is called ELR

I'm not sating it doesn't exist but there is nothing out there about it and I read up and all of this before when I was trying to figure out how to disable the ANC without tearing my headliner up.

Anything is possible. I assumed he knew more than me since he had swapped to the "smart" amp which took some digging into wiring harnesses to accomplish.

Either way, makes me no nevermind... lol

My factory head unit has an Audiopilot setting in the menu

ya the stock system is not worth the time unless your just bored and have nothing better to do, lol I couldn't wait to yank that bose crap out of the silverado sounds so much better now even with the stock headunit. On the Denali I swapped the headunit and added the subs and a amp and disabled the anc and it doesn't sound half bad

Changing the HU to something aftermarket makes a noticeable difference with the Bose amp for sure.

I have a 6 channel JL Audio amp that I would eventually like to swap over to but haven't felt like going to the trouble as of yet.

That will require getting rid of the Bose sub enclosure to make room for the amp and either tapping into the speaker wires at the factory amp or running all new wiring to the doors, so I'm in no hurry to open that can of worms... lol

I have been pretty happy with the bose and the added subwoofer in the Denali thus far, I can drown out screaming crying kids if need be lol, there is a pretty noticeable difference when the anc is disabled, the anc does what it is designed to do but it cripples the sound at the same time
