O2 Sensor

I had a check engine light pop up today. I put the code reader on and it said it was an O2 sensor issue. I cleared the code and drove home (about an hour on freeway) and didn't get a light, so maybe it's an isolated incident. But I came here to do a search for potential problems and, of course, tried to do a search and got back " the search term "O2" is too short and was not included in the results. "Oxygen Sensor" came up with no results.

So two questions I guess. First, any info on the O2 sensor would be helpful. The only things that changed were a recent oil change and a tank full of mid-grade gas, due to a problem with the regular grade at the gas station. Second, how can you search for "O2" in a forum search if there's insufficient characters to satisfy the search engine?

Using and posting the code would yield better results and get a better answer. It is kind of hard to help when you are vague in describing the issue or using the codes in your search terms.

I cleared the code and don't remember the P-number associated with it. If it reappears I will post it.

I think I was looking for away to search for the issue.

Besides O2 sensor ??????
Heater, circuit high voltage, low voltage, etc... bank 1 sensor 1, bank 1 sensor 2, etc....

Vehicle details in signature. As I said, I cleared it before writing it down, but Bank 1 Sensor 1 rings a bell. At this point I was just hoping to do a little light reading within the forum on the subject, was unable to perform a search using "O2" as a parameter.

This is one out of 4 sensors. See why we ask?
Also any modifications, this scanner is thinking everything is stock, no aftermarket muffler, air filter, etc...

I don't know the truth in it, but I was told that on a high mileage vehicle, if one goes out and you've never replaced any before, go ahead and do all four. I know some say that the rear sensors are unnecessary to replace if they are working, but as I understand they play a role in fuel trim as well as catalyst function. I bought all four off of amazon for about 110.

You are told (should be) to replace all because like a spark plug they get old and worn out, can be fouled.
They do play a role in fuel trim. More so then 90% of people think.
The front O2's use the rears to control the injector pulse. While the front actually tells the computer what the injector pulse should be, the data from the rear O2's is what the front O2's use to determine the pulse.

Good info and reading kcb37. Thank you. It's been a few days and still no re-appearance of the check engine light since clearing the code the first time. Good news for me, I guess, but I still wonder what caused it to trip in the first place.

Keep in mind all of those codes are for the bank 1 sensor 1 O2, you still have 3 more sensors which none of those codes relate to.
Other then it would say the same thing just a different code and sensor.

Hi Guys,

I'm new to the forum but not to building, repairing, or tuning cars. I think the O2 code might be P0134 that trevcda got. I just got my wife a 00 Yukon XL and after a few days it threw the same code. I am replacing it today and that should clear it out. I know from experience that you NEVER clear a code until you get the info for the code and know what you need to do to fix it. I learned that when I cleared the knock sensor code on a turbo car I had and destroyed the engine within 72 hours.

Easy fix. Replace all 4 O2 sensors and be done with it... Eventually that code will keep coming back.
