Hey guys,

I'm looking for recommendations on mods that will add more power to my truck. I'm sick of getting passed on the highway by teslas and the like.

I don't care at all about mpg, I'm averaging about 12mpg right now, 8mpg city and about 14mpg highway.

My main goal is to make the truck faster. I still need it to be reliable as most of my driving is on the highway on long trips, but outside of that I am game for anything.

Don't get me wrong, it has a ton of power now and it's fast for sure, but I want more.

Currently it has 6.0 with the 4l80e and 4.10 gears in the rear.

Any suggestions on where I should start?

Start with a good time from someone like Blackbear Performance @BlackBearPerf for the most bang for the buck. More HP, better throttle response and quicker shifting. That alone makes a big difference. After that the cost per HP goes up. Cam, long tube headers for middle of the road cost then heads or forced induction like a supercharger if you really feel like spending $$$.

Wanna race with Teslas? Why are you driving a big ol' truck? Sell it and get a smaller, lighter vehicle meant for speed. :)

If you want to make significantly more speed in your current vehicle, follow RocketMan's advice, which ain't cheap but is highly effective.

Define faster.

Top speed or off the line???

The 4:10 gears you have now are good for low end power to get you off the line faster but suck for top speed and fuel mileage on the highway.

A gear swap to a 3:73 or 3:42 would give you more top speed and fuel economy on the highway at the loss of some off the line.

3:08s would probably be to much in the other direction.

Magnacharger, long tubes, free flowing exhaust, less restrictive intake, mild camshaft and a tune to tied it all in together and she'll be a 600+ horsepower rocket. Maybe even a slightly higher stall converter too! Swap over to L96 injectors, not sure if the pumps are different.

With 600 RWHP and a race weight of 6,700 pounds, she'd run 12.70s @ 105 mph in the 1/4 mile.

How would a setup like that do on a long road trip?

Right now from a stop if I really get on it the tires will roast until I let off!

On the freeway if I'm doing 70 and I step on it to pass someone, there is no lag and no drop in rpm, you just hear the engine get louder and it starts to Go!

It's a lot of fun to drive as it is right now and it's definitely fast and tons of power.

BUT...i still get left in the dust by all these cars on the highway and I don't like it!

Well, if you did everything it would lose some of its manners and make more noise even while cruising. Dynamat. There's a video on youtube of a fellow with a 2500 and a supercharger getting tuned, I'd ask him. Check with the guys here who have supercharged 1500s. If you're doing all that and you want better mileage, consider the 6L90 that was used from 2008-2013 in the 2500s.

I'll look up those videos! Mpg is not of concern, I'm just worried about it being reliable on a long trip

Those 6.0 Gen IV LS blocks are good for 700 horsepower and lots of racers build them up to 1000 or more. If you're not trying to squeeze every last ounce of horsepower out of it, it will be more reliable; I'd start with a supercharger and tune and go from there as the need for speed arises.

Here's a short vid of my 02 but it's before I installed my Performabuilt trans and 2800 stall. It shifts so much harder now it's crazy. I've also since changed the tune so I need to get some more videos but it gives you an idea. I have a 6.0 with a Whipple SC, Vinci Trucker cam, Yella Terra full roller rockers, dual valve springs, hardened pushrods, American Racing longtubes with an Aero Turbo muffler, Performabuilt Level 3 "invincible" 4l60 trans rated for 800 HP with an FTI billet triple disc 2800 rpm stall converter. It's a blast to drive. It won't take a Tesla off the line though, that would be hard for any vehicle.

That's impressive!! I'll see if I can find a safe road to film mine on tomorrow

And the only thing the burb will ever beat a tesla in off the line is a game of chicken lol

...dual valve springs

Probably one of the best mods for safety and durability out there. I understand why GM did it, I would not have. It's cheap insurance against a valve kissing a piston. I'll gladly sacrifice some RPM for durability. I love torque more than horsepower anyway!

SUPERCHARGED!!!

Yup hands down. When people ask what the hell under my hood, it’s fun to reply oh not much, whining alternator, exhaust leak.

Here’s mine
