Need front Wheel bearings (4WD) which ones are good?

I've heard Timken.. Are OEM any better? (~$100 to $150 more per bearing!)

I do like Genuine GM or ACD but Timken is a very safe substitute.

I ordered the SKF tracker something assemblies.. I did it about 2 years ago
They were supposed to the very best.. But I think they quit making them..
Mine aren't bad, yet... So I decided to pull the trigger for the future.
Timken, Moog, Etc Stay with the brand name ones or you'll be doing them again

The mevotech high end ones TTX look good. And
SKF BR930661 X-Tracker Hybrid is still sold at rockauto

Correct me if I'm wrong (and I'm really hoping I am), but..

I've read recently that Timken had been purchased by some overseas company (I don't remember who or where) and that the cost cutting has begun and quality has taken a hit. Either that or they didn't get bought out, but some (or all) of their products are being made in China now.

Same thing with Moog. From many comments I've seen across numerous sites Moog's quality has gone substantially down.

It's depressing to say the least... feels like when it comes to parts the only options that will soon be left will be 'bad' and 'not as bad.'

I just installed a Carquest Professional front hub in my 2012 yesterday because it’s what I happened to have on the shelf. Fingers crossed that it will last. Seemed well made and historically I have placed Carquest professional parts in the same class as NAPA’s parts which I’ve had great luck with over the years. We’ll see!

If I’m not mistaken kryptonite wheel bearings are rebranded timkens with the lifetime warranty

Leaning towards GM. Looking at rockauto, they're about $20 more per over the timkens. Timkens on amazon say made in China. Looks like the GM are made in Korea..

Shoot when I did my wheel bearings I think the moog in town was 210$ or so
Ordered the kryptonite hubs for 200$ shipped at the time from Rudy’s diesel in NC so next day shipping to me.
The kryptonite had a lifetime warranty also and I wanted my front end to be a one and done type deal so I don’t have to replace ball joints and hubs every 50,000 miles

Be careful of WHERE you buy from.. Lot and lots of FAKE parts out there... I'll usually stick with Rock or Summit
or local parts stores... For the money you're paying for the GM's you could get the better ones that I mentioned earlier.
They are a hybrid design that is better than the OE's

The Carquest I installed was also made in Korea.

Sounds like the Kryptonite hubs are similar design to the SKF xtracker hybrids.. Kryptonite website says out of stock.. So maybe I'll try the SKF if I want the ball bearing design..(about $100 less per unit compared to kryptonite)

Thanks for all the suggestions! Usually like sticking with OEM, but it sounds like stock wheels bearings aren't particularly stout, so I might as well try the hybrid design..

Both Summit and rockauto show pictures with the print Made In USA for the Timken SP500301.

Interestingly in the Q&A section for Summit, they answered this question 2 years ago, but quickly noted it could change at any time.

Keep in mind that most manufacturers do not make all their bearings and repackage other brands. I have Timkens (Honda/Toyota applications) new in the box that are NTN USA made and some that are NSK Japan made. And interestingly two of one part number with one NTN made in USA, and another without any markings on the bearing or the box as to manufacturing location.

I used AC Delco (GM oem). Old one came off and new one back on without a hitch. Being the first one I've done I was expecting resistance and was pleasantly surprised.
