Hello everyone I am new to the fourn thing so I'm not sure how all this works but I've got what I think may be a major problem on my hands so I just got this 2001 Tahoe 185k miles and well I couldn't find anything wrong with it fir several days but even still I decided to dump some seafoam in the top end after waiting about 45 mins figured that was plenty long enough I decided it was time to start her back up and run her for a while well to my surprise she wouldn't start yup hydrolock persay so after waiting a few more hours and a brand new battery she finally starts this is also after my lil brother who won't listen to anyone decides it's a better idea to try and turn the motor over by hand and if I'm not mistaken he tried to accomplish this with a prybar instead of playing the plugs like I instructed him to do so anyways she finally starts up but to my surprise she's making a horrible clanking sound almost like a marble in a coffee can and has been giving me serious issues on starting since I was beginning to think the motor was seized or that maybe the crank was broken but it isn't foes anyone have any ideas in what may be the issue here I'm leaning torads the flex plate being cracked or warped I've got a few others that day maybe soun bearing or bent pushrod

Bro, not being a smart alec, just stating a fact.

If you use proper punctuation and organize your words in to sentences and paragraphs, you will get more people to respond.

But starting with the valvetrain inspection like JoeBlobs said is a good idea.

Welcome to the forum.

What @OBSandaNNBS said about creating proper sentences and paragraphs and punctuation. My head hurts after trying to read thru your post.

Why did you dump Seafoam in it? Dump in the top end means?

1st thing you need to do is record a video, then upload it to youtube and post a link here so we can hear what you are hearing.
best to try and find the source of the sound by moving your phone around and under the engine bay.
that will get a better idea of what it "could" be which is anything. minor or bad or worse.

Pics of the truck, please.

You are already receiving sage advice from the knowledgeable folks on this Forum.

As stated above, the first step is to try determine where the sound is coming from. Then, you can investigate that specific area, and we will work with you to identify and resolve.

Hey guys,

Sorry about the poor punctuation and all the typos. I’ll definitely take your advice to heart and make sure not to make that mistake again.

I’ll get that video uploaded as soon as I can. I’d really like to get it running again so I can record a proper video. Right now, if I’m lucky, it might turn over a little — you can still hear the rattle and clunk when trying to start. But most of the time, it just gives a loud click, almost like the motor is locked up.

However, I can take a breaker bar and rotate the motor by hand until it hits a hard spot. If I work it back and forth a bit, then try again, eventually I can get it to turn freely all the way around without resistance. That’s got me leaning toward a possible issue with the flex plate.

I wouldn't worry about the spelling or anything as long as it makes sense, we aren't grading papers here.

First off, sorry for the headache — I know my original post was hard to read. I was using talk-to-text, and it doesn’t always punctuate things correctly. I’ll try to be clearer going forward. I guess that’s what AI is for now anyway, right?

As for the Seafoam situation — when I said I “dumped Seafoam in it,” I meant I was doing a top-end/fuel injection cleaning as stated on the bottle. However, I probably went a little overboard. I used the large can and fed it into the brake booster vacuum line — about half the can while the engine was running and the other half with it off.

I think letting it sit in the manifold with the engine off might have been where I went wrong. I should’ve known better, honestly — I’m pretty mechanically inclined. But I figured if I let it soak long enough, it would just burn off once I started it up.

That’s probably where the so-called “hydro-lock” effect came from.

I'd remove the valve covers and inspect the valvetrain. Loose or bent pushrods, rocker arms, valve springs, ect. Could also rent an inspection camera and check out the tops of the pistons for contact.
I've already removed the valve covers and ran a boroscope down all the pistons look great no valve to piston contact. The sound sounds like it's coming from the bottom end or maybe the bell housing which has kinda hit me leaning towards the flex plate

Have you pulled the bellhousing inspection cover or starter motor? You should be able to get a decent look from both vantage points, if that's the area of concern.

Exactly what are you prying on to turn it over? The only thing I can think of is you’re prying on the teeth of the flex plate. Whatever it is you and your little brother are prying on with a crowbar is where I’d start looking.

Seafoam won't hydro-lock an engine unless you pour it into the throttle body, there is no place on an LS to rotate the engine with a crowbar; so my guess is whatever he was prying on is broken

Pull the belt off & start it, if it sounds normal again fix whatever he broke with the prybar
