I found a pretty interesting way to improve the low end of the Bose system in my '21 Tahoe. I'm actually a little shocked that I hadn't seen someone try this angle before. I had been looking at the JL Stealthbox, but was having a really hard time separating myself from the $1,200 that they're asking for it. I love JL gear, but that's pretty aggressive for an unpowered sub and box. I did a little searching and realized that AKG has now replaced Bose as the preferred audio provider for the new-gen Escalade. Their stock package includes a 265mm (10.4") sub in the same rear compartment space as the Tahoe sub. I found the part number online and ended up pulling the trigger for $200 shipped from OEMPartsquick.com. I pulled the stock speaker from the box, filled it loosely with Polyfil (this is a standard for all of the boxed I've built) and dropped in a Fosgate Prime R2DS 10" shallow-mount woofer.

The amp is a Boss Audio Riot R1100M. I understand it's not top of the line, but it has worked perfectly for me on multiple occasions in the past. I downloaded the Stealthbox installation sheet from the JL website, namely because it gives you a step-by-step deconstruction of the panels, seat belts, etc. to get to the sub installation location in the rear of the truck. My new box dropped right in and even used the attachment bolts that were already in place. I added washers and M6x1 nut with a Teflon ring to the top two mounting points for more security.

I mounted the amp in the storage space in the rear, drilled a hole in the side, added a grommet to keep it neat/clean and wired it up. It was mounted on the right side of the space so that I would still have access to the controls on the side and not have to bend the power and ground wire in a way that would create stress on the connections. I drilled four holes and used two 1" pieces of flat bar with drilled holes to allow the plastic tray to maintain stability underneath and not pull through the plastic when it was tightened. This part was probably overkill, but it made me feel better about it. I tapped in to the rear door speaker wires for the hi/lo converter, plugged in the RCA cables and fired it up. Side note - I don't have ANC, so I was able to get around using an aftermarket harness or an LCi2. True to form, this set up blows doors, y'all. If my wife rolling her eyes means that I was successful, then I pretty much became president of the world after this one. I am beyond happy.

Sorry for being so wordy, but I tried to include everything that I would have asked in this write up. If I missed something or if you have any other questions, let me know. Have a good one!!

Any chance you have more pictures of your wiring ends and amp? I bought all the stuff you recommended, but want to make sure I route all the wires in the ideal way and don't miss any important steps

On your LC2i Pro, did the GTO setting work for signal detection? Or did you use a standard remote turn on?
GTO, but I’ll confirm this weekend as I have more work to do this weekend and confirm. I lasted the manual below, I think this will depend on where and how you’re picking up the signal source.

GTO Signal Sense

DC offset is a high falutin technical term that means

the LC2i PRO can sense when the head unit is on, not

necessarily when audio is being sent to the LC2i PRO. Use

GTO Signal Sense mode when your factory sound system

outputs a DC offset when it is on.

Audio Sense

When this mode is selected, the LC2i PRO will ONLY

turn on when you start playing a source from the head

unit. Whether it be the radio, CD player or streaming via

Bluetooth from a mobile device. If you turn the head unit

on, but DON’T play audio, the LC2i PRO will not turn on.

Remote Input

This is the traditional way to turn on the LC2i PRO and

gives you more control of exactly when the unit will turn

on. Most common places to connect the remote input

are from the ignition of the vehicle, fuse box, or some

other 12V source (such as a cigarette lighter).

Great thread! Where are some of the factory ground points to ground the amp on a 24 Tahoe? I didn’t go with a stealthbox but most of these amp wiring kits only give maybe 3’ of ground wire.

Thanks,
DW

I believe if you have a Bose audiopilot setting in the infotainment screen. It's where you control the eq and fade and balance i think.

If anyone wants to add subwoofer to their GM SUV w/ Bose system, I have a new T-harness for 2014-2024 Bose R2G if anyone is interested. $60 shipped. Just PM me.

Sorry but I don't have the minimum posts needed to list in Classifieds section.

From what i have found, the off road vehicles, aka Z71/AT4 do not have the ANC enabled.

can anyone else confirm?

i am about to do this install myself
just waiting on the Tharness because i dont really want to tap into the wires, prefer a cleaner install, aka removable without a trace.

yes it will fit without any modifications or issues

i bought mine off amazon

using a CT sounds Hydro 2D
did have to use a heat gun to mold the bottom a bit to get the sub to fit
but you can buy other subs listed in the thread that drop in without issue

This write up is amazing. I just got the Escalade box from Amazon and plan on installing it this weekend. I've got to say though, it doesn't feel too sturdy and it looks like there's a seal that could be a weak point along the front outer edge of the box. How has the box held up to the bigger sub a few years after the install?

Unfortunately he hasn't been on since April so we'll have to wait for somebody else to chime in.

Box has held up fine even after I cut into it for the aero port. Had it in the 23 then when I traded that in, took it out and installed it on the current 25. As of June this year that’s been 2 years with that setup in 2 vehicles and no issues with the box
