I drive a 2003 chevy Tahoe z71 with a leveling kit on it and stock tires size but they are AT's and I just recently took a trip from the bottom of south Carolina to Eastern Massachusetts and it only cost me 325 bucks in gas total, every time I fill her up I mix in some Lucas tune up junk my dad uses in his 92 blazer that has like 500,000 miles lol, just to think in the next month I'm getting new coil packs wires plugs and a cai, and early winter I'm getting a black bear tune, I'm gunna be getting like 30mpg lol

My 02 4x4 5.3 is getting 12 MPG mixed hwy and city with stock gears havent taken on a trip since ive put the hypertech on it but i honestly thought itd be getting better.... I can run 80 MPH at 2100 RPMs and 70 at 1800... That compared to 80 MPH running 2400 and 70 at 2100 before the hyperpack... Granted I haul ass everywhere i drive especially on the interstate, but still...

2004 Tahoe AWD 5.3 w/ 3.73 gears, will do 20 MPG on 10% ethanol 21.5 on true gas @ 70 mph with no problem. I came from a S-10 crew cab to this sweet V8 and get better mileage, I feel like I'm stealing.
See my sig for the two aerodynamic mods I did. Shaved rack and added a 06 front air dam.
Hi,

When you added the 06 front air dam did you just add the lower portion such as this (http://www.jcwhitney.com/replacemen...50426y2006j1&gclid=COjvwt-6krMCFelFMgodHyAAzA) ?

Or did you have to get the whole new valance like this (http://www.newtakeoff.com/ProductImages/products/bumpers/GA4-4600-00AA.jpg)...thanks for any input!

On my last highway trip I averaged just under 16 mpg on my z71 that's running 285's. That's with the cruise control set at 73 mph, no a/c and no passengers. Around town I typically get right around 13 mpg.

20+ highway 65-70mph/2000rpm... the sweet spot, on the ramp, of the ramp, no stop and go.
I get around 14 mpg going back and forth to work, it's only 2.5 miles each way, stop and go, it doesn't even reach operating temp.

If that's the sweet spot, it's no wonder I can't get anything above 16 even on highway. Got 5.3 L 4x4 (running 2wd mode most of the time), 3.73 rear, all stock. Around town avg 13-14. On highway, I cannot travel 65-70... too slow for me.

I've only been getting around 19 on the highway at 128,000 and haven't done plugs and wires yet. Also my foot is getting heavier and been going over 70 alot.

i have an 03 Z71 on 26s with all stock gears. 50 series flowmaster s/i d/o. k&n air filter, replaced spark plugs and wires with a/c delco iridium plugs at 150k when i bout it, and fuel filter after about 10k miles. try to drive conservatively. mostly in town driving but my dic says im getting 13.4 average. wouldnt know how to act if i got 16mpg in town lol. 165k mile and hasnt changed but .4 since i bout it.

o. and i have 2 15s in the back....but i feel i should be getting better mpg as well. lol

2004 Tahoe MPG

I just purchased a 2004 Tahoe AWD with 373 rear end and 5.3liter. Has 170k on it and gets terrible mpg compared to what I am reading. 100 mile trip @ 70 mph, flat land, mostly w/cruise and I averaged 13.5mpg. another 100 miles locally and averaged 13mpg. Vehicle has been well maintained and runs well. Not sure what issue is but I guess I should change plugs, wires etc. Any other suggestions?

I've aways had decent mileage, when iI did a serial number search it came up with some rare Canadian emissions spec? Only 4 Tahoes made in 04 match the options mine has. I still haven't done a tune up at 134K, last 200 mile trip down 81 to VA. I got 19.6 MPG on 10% ethanol regular. I know 2003's don't get the mileage 2004"s do. When I purchased it from the Chevy dealer 4 years ago I had some drivetrain noise issues, after they had it three times to fix the problem the service manager said for some reason mine really runs good...said like others arn't as fast as mine.

19.6 mpg on the last haul to Texas. Basically flat, some rolling hills through Alabama and Mississippi. That was doing 80 - 85. I do 70 around town, and am averaging 16.3 combined :]
