I've seen these a few times and wondered; "what is this?" It's on the negative battery cable on an 06 Yukon that I harvested the E-fan harness and relay/fuse block from recently. My 04 Tahoe does not have this.
Thanks

Weird! It is supplying ground to something... But, what the heck is it?!
Where does the harness with the small wires connect on the other end?

Any part numbers visible on the label?

If it was late in production season, maybe they transitioned to the new thing early.
Is the factory sticker still in the door with production date?

I'll check if or when I go back to the yard with this Yukon.

That contraption isnt on my 2005 Yukon Denali.
OK, maybe it was a mid year thing?

Hell, I don't know. I don't have it on my 2001, but my 2011 and 2012 have it, well it's more of an updated, slimmed down connector on the negative cable

The contraption is likely one of 2 things that will measure current and battery voltage. A CT(current transformer which must go around the negative wire) and/or a precision 1 ohm resistor which can be used to measure current.

The image shows a battery current sensor, which is a type of control module typically found on the negative battery cable in a vehicle's battery management system, especially in Start/Stop vehicles that are not hybrids or electric.
Key functions and characteristics of this component:
Measures Current Flow:
It acts as an amp clamp, measuring the current flowing into and out of the battery.
Sends Signal to BCM:
The sensor translates the current flow into a variable duty cycle signal, which is then sent to the Body Control Module (BCM) to indicate current flow.
Part of Battery Management:
It plays a role in the overall battery management system of the vehicle.
Location:
It is commonly found connected to the negative battery terminal or cable, which serves as the ground for the vehicle's electrical system.
