Hey guys.

Im thinking about ugrading the out-dated crap spider in my 5.7 vortec. So hows everybody elses truck's liking the updated spider? Im thinking about getting the spider, carpit kit for the interior, and a few other odds and ends. I've heard about the MPG gains. But what are the drawbacks of putting it in?

I wish i would have known about it when i replaced the intake manifold gaskets. kinda frustrating. but owell!

so anything about the MFI setup: pros and cons, likes and dislikes, anything at all.

Thanks in advance guys!
Nick

When I bought my truck it ran like crap... I drove it home and i was missing and "bucking" under acceleration... so under advisement I changed to the new style spider... after I was.done it still had a miss but no longer bucked... found out the miss was a sparkplug boot not attached... so I'd have to say my upgrade helped the bucking significantly.... I got mine at advance autoparts online and used a promo code for 20% off... part number 63886 for $268.79 that's a $67.20 discount... best I found around... check out.... http://www.retailmenot.com/view/advanceautoparts.com. to see which promo will work best for your order...

The spider upgrade won't give you any economy/performance increases - it's a manufacturer fix for the fuel changes (originally for the CA additives). That said, I've got nothing bad to say about the upgrade. I performed the upgrade at the same time I changed my intake gaskets (added the VMax spacer at the same time). The major difference between the designs is that the new design has actual injectors at the ends rather than the poppets (which would get stuck on the old design with the CA additives).

I ordered my spider from GMPartsDirect.com about two years ago. At the time, they had the lowest overall price even though their shipping cost was a bit outrageous.

I read from some other forums (cant member where) that it helps fuel econmy alittle bit if you dont have a lead foot. because the old spider dumps gas into every cylinder every cycle. the upgrade gives gas before the firing of each cylinder, therefore not wasting fuel and actually burning the fuel. correct me if im wrong. imi pretty sure im getting it. then going to focus on that nasty interior of mine... its absolutely NASTY!

tell you in a day or two. currently suffering misfires on 5 &7and serious missing and heavy bucking. My old one is out. Most of the tips are carboned with a few with melted plastic tips from heat. Hoping there is nothing wrong with left head as well.

Anyone know if there is a way to check to see if you have the updated spider with out pulling the top intake off?

pretty sure GM never actually put it into the trucks. I think delco just made a updated version and sells it to us. everyone that i have talked to has the old crappy one. in my town everywhere you turn theres a suburban, yukon, tahoe, or a 1500 truck around. so theres always someone to ask about if they upgraded. and everyone that ive asked (which is about 100) doesnt even know what im talking about and know they dont have one. but hey it doesnt hurt to take a look.

had to do the upgrade when I replaced the top end of the motor in my tahoe last year, it was missfiring on 2 cylinders and throwing lean codes.

knock on wood, no problems, gas mileage is still the same 15mpg as near as I can tell. Truck feels slow to me, but all my other cars have a lot more power, haha.

Ha, I laughed out loud at work when I read this.....

I know exactly what you guys are talkng about!!!

I drive around all week in my truck thinking, I like the speed, I like the acceleration, this truck rocks!
Then on Saturday/Sunday, I get on my snowmachine. I blow my mind on it!
Then, come monday, I'm like, why is my truck bogging down so much? Where is the speed? It feels soooo sluggish.... then I realize that I"m not sitting on a rocket anymore!!!!!

And I'm looking for????

You are looking for any hose line with an injector on it between the body and where it enters its own personal orrifice. They moved the injector downstream out of the body so two wires are along side each hose with a protective sheathing over it.
