Magnaflow performance loss

I had installed a magnaflow single in dual out muffler in the stock location with stock piping yesterday, part #12590, and I drove it today and it sounds great but seems a little sluggish. Is there a break in period or something, or any way to gain that performance back? It's only from slow speeds and accelerating, I'm kind of angry cuz I wouldn't have replaced it if I knew this was gonna happen.

Did they shrink the exit piping from what stock was?

The y pipe in the rear leading out from the muffler are both 3 inch, they fit fine into the muffler outlets which are 3 inch as well. Will a resonator help?

Resonator just makes it more quiet. The tone will change over time. At least my magnaflow on my Tahoe did... I don't know if the performance will change.

Could it have to do with the engine getting a lesser amount of backpressure compared to the stock exhaust?

yess, you need to equally open up the intake to match the exhaust flow and tune it..
that sluggishness will go away

Yep.

I have a gibson headers, magnaflow exhaust and K+N intake with a tune - no lack of performance.

can i do a tune myself or must i go to a shop and have them do it? any websites or anything with instructions?

it sounds good, resonates inside a bit around 1500-2000 rpm but not horrible. I think i should have gone with a single outlet over the dual outlet so the backpressure would be closer to stock

I needed an adapter for the inlet to fit, stock piping on the inlet is 2.75". The stock outlet is a dual outlet design, so I bought a dual outlet magnaflow so it would weld in with no issues

^+1 on what magnaflow you have cody? I assuming the muffler that the OP and the inlet/outlet setup is different is he doesnt have a 6.0 also..

I belive I have a Magnaflow part #12595 So I have Dual 3" in and a single 3.5" out. Yeah I'd be willing to part with it if I decide to swap it out for a Flowmaster.

Go with a dynomax VT if you sell the magnaflow Cody. I love mine and had issues with the flowmasters in a single 3" in/out configuration, kept blowing out cold rolled welds in the muffler's inlet. Dynomax is quiet until you stand on it, then it sounds better than the magnaflow or flowmaster I had installed prior.
