Lq4 rering

So slow right know so I thought time to rering my spare lq4. My engine in my truck now runs great just has 205000 and starting to leak pretty good. This engine has 175000 it ran well also when pulled but also leaked. So I disassembled it today and was very pleased! Mains look like new rods have some but very little wear but oil rings are frozen. This will be a very budget build. Thinking Vincie Torque cam ,single coil springs, under cut stainless valves, rering kit ,polish crank,stock chain,moly push rods , trunnions ,good lifters and some stuff that I forgot to mention like all the dam bolts I have to buy.

First washing now hone,cam bearings and scrap off what the washer did not get. Then back in the washer. I will final wash with soap water bore brushes and air then oil bores and crank saddles bag and wait on parts.

Ok so guys always take pictures and mark everything you can and do not throw away thing away. When all is running well you can throw old parts away.

Did not have time for assembly pics but just waiting for pushrods,trunnions,knock sensor and knock sensor harness. So everything is standard lq9 pistons ,ring gap spec out good. **** rods ,polished the crank and balanced. Vinci 554 cam,Vinci double valve spring kit and Vinci lifters .hexajust chain to degree cam .I ported a 235 mellings oil pump.Heads looked good so I lapped the valves and installed the seals Vinci sent in spring kit.Always replace mr barbell! I will update when we get it installed.

GRRRR so #8 exhaust lifter stuck won’t compress! Holding valve open checked like 3 times,it is in the cup. Binding the spring have call and email out to Vinci still waiting. I have pressure on it hopefully it will collapse.

No milling , changed to lq9 piston and stock rods are 6.098 and new rods are 6.100 over 10:1 probably close to 10.5:1. No real goals but thinking with with cam,8.1 injectors ,1 3/4 primaries bbk drop in headers and black bear tune thinking maybe 400ish. More of a towing engine really.

That's a very similar combo to the 6.0 in my Tahoe. I tows extremely well for a 1/2 ton.

How about fuel economy?

It gets mid 15s around town but I don't get much highway time. The one time I did get a long distance trip in it got 18-19 at 75mph. I havent towed anything long distance yet but I would expect between 9-12. I'm kinda impressed with it because most people I know with a 6.0 in anything get 12 flat. My RCSB with a 4.8 never got better than 13, now with a radical 6.0 and blower 10mpg is the average and 6 is the best towing.

Right now I get 13-13.8 city about 20 at 60, 16 at 70 and 8-9.5 towing.

I don't think that's terrible for an XL with a 4 speed auto. Might get 1-2mpg better with the new combo. That's if you can keep your foot out of it.

Finally in and running! Happy dance ! Just need to data log and send off to black bear. Wow 578 exhaust lift , you can hear the valves slam shut through the headers. I will try to post a video.
