Well, since I'm relatively new here and don't know the other members that well, I don't know if you're kidding around or really pissed off by my statement. Either way, we all have our preference. Anyway, that picture really has no affect. I'm pretty much set on going larger now. BTW, if I didn't already mention it, I appreciate the info you gave, especially about the cladded wheels, which I knew nothing about. I'll be avoiding those.

We're (mostly) friends and family here. At the least, it's the internet- it's not so serious. Definitely NOT pissed off. Especially not over something as subjective as which generation of vehicle looks better. I wouldn't even go through the trouble to take and upload pics if I were responding out of anger. You bet your ass I'd do it for teh lulz, though. I saw your original post and it reminded me that I had one of those center caps in the garage. Just one, so I didn't bother piping up until that last opportunity. One is as good as none, ya know? BTW, I was careful to not let it get the coffee grounds on it in the trash can and removed it after the pic. It's up for grabs if you want it or if anyone is missing one.




I'm all about documenting and sharing! Yeah, it takes a special kind of donkey to put in that kind of work for some very basic wheels. But, when you like the basic look and want something not so common that you "made yourself", you gotta be that donkey.

Well, thanks again for that info. On a related subject, those other wheels that I posted, what do you all think about $600 for them. Brand new, never been on the ground. The guy had them swapped out for black when he bought the truck. They're 20s. So you don't have to scroll back, here they are:

$600 is a great price for new factory wheels. If you like 'em that much (size, style and newness), go for it. But you still gotta get tires. If I were fine with 18s, I'd likely pick something like those you mentioned earlier if the tires were good. Good-looking wheels with tires for $100 less than the cost of just those new 20" wheels.

Yeah, I've been bouncing that around. I haven't made up my mind yet. The price is good on he 18s, plus they're only about 10 miles from my house. The 20s are about an hour away. I do like the fact that I can pick my own tires with the 20s...more money, but with the mileage I put on each year, they should last a long time. I'm retired, so I don't drive a lot of miles each day plus I have an old 96 beater Jimmy that I drive a lot. One question I had about the 20s, is the center hub the same size on the new GM wheels as it is on the GMT800?

Buy used tires off of FB Marketplace, Craigslist, or even eBay. Why? Then you can try the looks and ride of both the 18s and the 20s, and see which you prefer. Maybe even have a Summer and Winter set of tires.

Yup- all the standard 78.1mm bore.

Well, the 18s fell through. The kid was being a jerk about them and when to meet, so I passed. I found another set of the same wheels with Nitto Terra Grapplers on them with good tread, but they guy wants $800 vice the $600 of the other set. The tires look like they have a decent amount of tread on them, so I'm considering it. I was hoping to pay less, but that doesn't seem bad for the wheels and tires. Anyone running the Terra Grapplers in 265/65/18?

Sam, I saw your post in the Official wheel thread with this picture of your Yukon. Those wheels look nice on it. I was wondering if you were happy with your decision to get those. I've run across a set of them not too far away with decent tires on them (Firestone Destination LE2). Are they a pain to keep clean or fairly easy?

Thanks @Jeff53. I couldn’t be happier with them! They are a little tedious to clean, but using quality ceramic/ carbon pads from Powerstop, they stay pretty darn clean! Very little brake dust, and excellent stopping capability.

Thanks, Sam. Good to know. I've been thinking about putting some new front pads on anyway as the stopping ability isn't quite what I think it should be. Did you buy the Z36 kit? I do like the look of the wheels, especially with a darker color, like your red. I'm thinking they'd look pretty good on my dark blue, also.

Which brake hoses do you use when you do the upgrade? Do you stick with the GMT800 hoses or use the GMT900 hoses? They're two different part numbers on Rockauto.

I used a kit from Goodridge (14175). These are for the GMT800. This particular kit has the 5 stainless lines, as I do not have Stabilitrak, which needs 6 lines. Additionally, this kit has a known problem where the center “tee” for the rear lines does not allow the lines to seat deeply enough into the tee, causing a leak. They are aware of the issue, and the newer kits seem to have a provision to correct this problem. Just be aware if you decide to use it, and perhaps give them a call, to ensure you have what’s needed to make it work without any leaks. I wasn’t aware of the issue, so had a custom tee made by a specialty shop. Works great but cost me another $40 or so IIRC.

Whatever lines you go with, just use the GMT800 parts, as they’ll attach right up to the GMT900 calipers.

Well, when I got them home and looked them over better, there were a few nicks and chips on them and one larger area, about an inch wide with the paint chipped. I went to my local autobody supply yesterday and had them mix me up some WA9967 Sparkle Silver Metallic to touch them up. Much cheaper than what they wanted online for touchup paint. $12 for 2 oz locally. But, all-in-all, not a bad deal for 500. The tires are Firestone Destination from 2019 and about 6/32 tread, so close to 1/2 worn. Again, not bad for the price. He even had the lug nuts for them. I was sorry to see that GM is still using the craptastic 2 piece lug nuts. Two of the caps were split. Fortunately, I have some spares. I may eventually swap them all out for solid ones. I plan on cleaning them up tomorrow and getting them installed. I'll post some before and after pictures afterwards.
