Do you think it is worth it to go through a dealer that offers a lifetime power train warranty? We currently have a Denali XL on order through https://www.williamsbuickgmc.com/love-us-for-lifetime-warranty/

I have found a few like 3 on lots around the country that have everything we are looking for but not the warranty. Would love to know the communities thoughts.

TIA

Sounds like a great deal, but I would definitely look at the fine print. I thought it might only be exclusive to that dealership you're working with, but I read where you can get your future Denali serviced anywhere you choose and it's apparently valid in every state.

My question would be - why is this dealership offering it and other GMC dealerships not?

Warranty’s skeeeve me out. I feel like they will try everything to find a way or loophole to make the repair your fault. But definitely the fine print is key.

They want the rig back in their shop anytime they can to upsell you other items. I would think the lifetime powertrain warranty is only good at the selling dealership, but could be wrong. A group of dealerships could be working together.

Seems like a nice incentive, they say "complimentary" but there is a markup somewhere for it, not transferable, not for diesel vehicles or lease, does not state if it excludes cpo, hybrid, fleet etc or not
says if you are more than 40 miles away it will be towed to a "participating dealership" which could be far or few between. you need to read the details and exclusions the have it "serviced anywhere" does not imply that you can have the "powertrain warranty applied anywhere", does not state if it includes part & labor or not (labor can be much more than parts cost), read the fine print, they can sing and dance and tell a story but it all comes down to the fine print.

In my community of over a million, there was a GM dealership that heavily promoted their lifetime powertrain warranty. Then GM pulled the dealership from them and they closed up shop. So much for their warranty.

If you’re a low risk kind of guy, then you can buy the GMC Protection Plan (and only the GMC Protection Plan) directly from any GMC dealership in the country. Even though they seem like a better value, do not buy any third party warranties, as they are often worthless.

I’m a low risk guy. I’ve bought the GM Protection Plan for every vehicle I’ve ever owned. Coverage as few as three years - to as many as nine years. It’s a gamble. Sometimes I loose money - sometimes I save money. After more than 35 years, I’ve probably broken even. But never worried about a surprise CUSTOMER PAY in that time.

My Honda dealer did that on their own, though, not a lifetime warranty. But, it was substantially longer that the standard Honda 3/36 warranty.

Since serious issues rarely happen with Hondas, my Honda dealer was not really risking much, financially. I spoke to the owner of the dealership about the extended warranty, and she advised me that it brought in significantly more sales, particularly for first-time Honda buyers.

Actually we have found quite a few GMC dealerships offering lifetime powertrain warranties. This is were we bought our '06 Envoy Denali XL brand new and still offers one https://www.haselwood.com/lifetimewarranty/

I used to never get extra warranties and would do the work myself when the original warranty was up. As I got older and my time was worth more, I have got a few in the past. The 3rd party warranty we got for our '15 Suburban LTZ has paid for itself 4 or 5 times over so far, but agree that it is not always that way.

There was 1 dealer that offers it that states any ASE certified repair facility could do the warranty work. I did a quick search and wasn't able to find it yet. I'll update if I do. In the mean time.....

Here are a few examples of others too:

https://www.conleybuickgmc.com/lifetimewarranty.html - This one states
DO I HAVE TO USE THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE CONLEY BUICK GMC FOR THE REQUIRED MAINTENANCE?
No! Although our service departments offers exceptional service at competitive prices, it isn't required. If you don't choose Conley Buick GMC for your service, use a licensed repair facility and keep your receipts.

https://www.starofquakertown.com/Lifetime-powertrain - This one states that the warranty work must be done by them.

Definitely read and fully understand the fine print. I'd question the motives of any dealer offering a lifetime powertrain warranty on a 2021+.

My dealer (Titus Will in Olympia, WA) also offers the lifetime powertrain warranty. It is administered by a 3rd party, and can be used outside of the issuing dealer but at a higher deductible ($500 vs. $100). This was important to me since I spend a lot of time driving between WA and SoCal. I don't usually go for 3rd party warranties after dealer warranties expire, but I think this is a good fit for me as I will exceed the manufacturers warranty with high mileage in a couple of years.
