What exactly are the signs that the ISS needs to be replaced? I know they are a big problem area for our trucks...but i've never heaerd what the symptoms of a worn ISS are...

Steering wheel clunks, random uncentering of the steering wheel, excessive wheel adjustment at highway speeds. There is a bunch of info floating around, makes the trucks steer alot better tho.

crikey enough questions dude? do a bit of reading off cognito's website and you'll hopefully understand. they try selling you the entire pivot assembly and include the gusset, just welding a gusset for a napa replacement piece is more than enough imo

There is however another weak link in the front IFS steering on the 6 and 8lug GM vehicles. The idler pivot assembly tends to wear out, bend, and even break under stress with as little as 35” tires. The idler pivot assembly is what the idler arm is mounted to, and pivots on. Cognito offers an aftermarket idler pivot assembly in order to strengthen your weak stock parts. The aftermarket Idler Pivot assembly has tapered roller bearings, adding strength and durability, thus creating a solid pivot point for your steering components. It doesn’t stop there. The idler pivot assembly mounting tabs tend to twist or even dislodge from the frame. Included with the kit is a weld in gusset in order to strengthen the weak factory mounting tabs. This kit is highly recommended, even more important than adding our heavy duty heim jointed tie rods. Play in the idler pivot can cause major tie rod issues. If the idler pivot assembly has an issue, the idler arm is able to move uncontrollably. As this happens you will have drastic tie rod angle changes. In certain instances a bent or failed part can cause complete disaster to your front end. Some damages may include: idler arm rubbing the transmission oil cooler lines or motor mount, pitman arm, idler arm, and tie rod breakage. Max, corrected me if I'm wrong but don't you do this for a living? At least i thought I remembered that from TF.

Either way, I am very interested in doing a complete suspension uprgrade and rebuild. My nearly 100k 03 Tahoe is in need to some suspension work.


My plans over the next two months are to piece together a complete set up and put it on all at once.

Key components to my upgrade are a 3/5 drop, sway bars, and new shocks (I have the oversized rear ones but not autoride). I will also take your advice and upgrade the stock components and mine needs the steering shaft repleacement.

So from the experts, what is a good budget for these parts?

Long winded post but all (helpful) input is appreciated.

I'm trying to finish skoo but work at a shop to pay the bills. I'd say 3/4 ton keys, belltech or mcgaughys springs, airlift helper bags, bilsteins, shock extensions, and all the front end stuff. I'd figure about $1000 for parts, front end stuff is expensive check out www.rockauto.com

Preformance first, defiantly. I wanna do the same mods here. I wanna cam, headers, exhaust, etc. Then next year after the shock of the new room, New outdoor kitchen, new car, my bad tax bill, wears off. I will put a super charger on the silverado, and get some headers, cam, CAI, exhaust for the yukon.

IM not sure. My 06 had auto ride and my 07 does not, Cant say I notice much different other than the 07 might have a firmer ride.

My silverado has ride control and I can tell you the helper bags really help when I have a ton of weight in the bed (like 50 sheets of drywall, or lumber, and stuff)
